We stayed for several days and found the location to be very convenient with just a short walk to Cannery Row. The hotel is older, the rooms could use some updating, but they were clean and a nice size. The staff was extremely courteous and helpful.

Hotel has nice, just my room were not ready. They gave me a free upgrade on my rooms since I had to wait. Short walk to the beach or to the wharf. Staff was friendly at all times. I would stay again.

This hotel used to be a Doubletree and it shows. It was a typical convention hotel. We were disappointed to find that it is on a hill by a bunch of shops sort of overlooking the water. When I made my reservation, I was lead to believe that the hotel was on the water. Next time I will stay somewhere else with more ambiance. We stayed at a different hotel the next night and it was much better.

We had booked with another couple and we had asked to be near them and we were told that we would be. When we got there, we were not even on the same floor, but then when we asked, they put us on the same floor which was very nice. So the service at the front desk was very nice. However, the hotel was set in small separate buildings and we were quite far away from the other couple. The hotel was not at all full to capacity, so it was unclear why we could not get rooms closer to one another. We paid full price for the rooms as well. It is not a good hotel if someone in your party has mobility issues.
I am somewhat likely
to return to the Portola Hotel & Spa at Monterey Bay.
I might recommend it to friends.
