47 year old man with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

We stayed at the Plaza for 7 nights in November 2007 and 7 nights in February 2008. On both occasions we were extremely pleased with our overall experience at the Plaza from beginning to end.

We have been to Vegas several times and used to always stay on the Strip. But in Nov 07 we decided to try staying on Fremont and are we ever glad we did. The atmosphere downtown is far more fun and friendlier than on the Strip. Our days of staying on the Strip are done...downtown is where its at.

One of the main reasons we enjoy downtown far better than the strip is the hotel/casino staff. We experienced good, friendly service at all the downtown casinos, but the Plaza staff is second to none. Every staff member we encountered at the Plaza provided us with friendly, quick, and efficient service. Here are just a few examples:

- Housekeeping always kept our room spotless and handled any special requests we had quickly and with a smile on their face;

- Bar and cocktail service is super fast, as good as any in Vegas, and better than most. And, icing on the cake, the staff are all very friendly;

- Dealers, table games and slot attendants are helpful and friendly. They are happy to take the time to explain games you may not know that well, actually root for you to win, and seem genuinely happy when you do.

In short the Plaza staff make you feel like a valued customer and person. Basically they act as if it is their job and duty to ensure that you have the most fun and best Las Vegas experience possible.

As for the hotel itself, we've always found our rooms to be clean and with everything in satisfactory working order. They have all the necessary amenities that we require. I might add that both times we stayed their we were with groups of 8 people so we had 4 rooms between us. All our traveling companions were satisfied with their rooms and had no problems.

I won't tell you to expect the ultimate in world class 5 star plus swank when staying at the Plaza. Let's remember you are not staying at one of those $500 a night rooms at some of the places on the Strip. However, I can say, in my opinion, if you want to stay in a decent hotel, with clean rooms, a comfortable bed, a fun atmosphere, and great service, the Plaza offers probably the best value for your money in Las Vegas.

We, like most people we know, don't go to Vegas to hang out in the rooms. What we primarily want in a Vegas hotel room is one that is clean and comfortable and has all the basic amenities. At the Plaza you will get that. But you will get it for a very good price and with great all around service from the staff.

The last couple of things I'll comment on are the pool and the eating establishments.

The Plaza is one of the few downtown hotels that offer a pool. While its not as swanky as some of the Strip pools its big enough to serve it's purpose and there is plenty of room for sun tanning and relaxing in the loungers. Of the pools in the downtown hotels it's probably the 2nd nicest.

The Plaza offers a wide variety of eating establishments, from very informal/inexpensive to buffets, to fine dining. We've tried them all and we've always enjoyed our meals at any of the Plaza's establishments and never experienced any problems. The buffet is a extremely reasonable $7.77 for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

All in all our 2 stays at the Plaza were our best 2 trips to Vegas. We've already booked another trip there and we plan to stay there from now on.

I've stay in hotels from one end of the strip to the other. The initial reason I stayed at the plaza was a lot of the movie The Wedding Planner was shot there. I would rate it all around between 3.5-4.0 stars. See you in Sept.

IF YOU LIKE DIRT AND FILTH THEN THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU. THE DIRT IS HELD TOGETHER WITH DUCT TAPE. IT SHOULD BE CALLED THE PLAZA FLOP HOUSE. THE ONLY THING MISSING ARE ROACHES AND RATS BUT THEY PROBABLY CHECKED OUT BECAUSE OF THE DIRT.

What I HATE-Some of the Reviews are HORRIBLE!

OUR EXPERIENCE: Arrived about Noon to 1 pm on a Wednesday in October of 2006. Check In Time: 3pm...3rd Floor Check In...knew this before going, so proceeded to 3rd Floor..Lots of Reviews have complaints about this...Waited for one person in front of us...Check In took about 5 minutes. Room was ready, and we had no trouble finding it. Elevator's worked fine. We were on the 14th floor...2 queen Beds, Carpet Clean, Beds Clean. Furiniture older, and Hotel quality. Bathroom VERY small, but efficient...Hot Water, Clean Tub, Clean commode, Clean Walls....no mold. Although Bathroom was very small...Dressing Room made up for it....probably 6' x 7' Nice size sink and Vanity...enough for 3 people to put all their stuff out...Large mirror and Closet, But only one Suitcase Rack. (We didn't use it!) Also a 4' X 8' Full Length Mirror right outside the Dressing room! It was really nice that someone could shower or use the commode, while someone else could brush their teeth, and I could do my hair and make up without the mirror steaming, Room also had a Round Table and Chairs....which we used occasionally to drink Coffee and eat Doughnuts. TV wa small..but we weren't there to watch TV! Paintings looked like Crayon done by a 4 yr. old...but Lot's of ART is BAD, and commands more than I would pay...nor would I want it in MY Living room! And again, We weren't there for an ART SHOW! There was a tear in the wall paper in the room, and one out in the hall on the way to the elevators....maybe I'll pack some Contact Cement along on this trip and fix it for them...but it's not enough to make me not want to go back! Check In Staff was friendly and courteous, as all staff seemed to be if addressed...otherwise, they seemed to mind thier own Business! Saw no Drunks or Bums around the Front Door to the Lobby as other people have stated, and although both my husband and son were along, we all pretty much go our separate ways, and I usually come in very late......3 or 4am sometimes...by myself...no fear or apprehension about returning to the Hotel alone at these wee hours of the am. Did not do well at the Slots here, but my Brother who also was in Vegas at the time did very well on the slots at The Plaza! If I'd have hit BIG, I'd have rated The Plaza a 10! Check out went as fast as Check In....our room was large & clean, staff was courteous, Room was Ready upon arrival, Air Conditioner worked fine and was not noisy....Never ran out of Hot water, and it went right down the Drain, and the sink drained also...The Price is reasonable, and we are hoping to stay for a week this time! If you like Golden Faucets, and a Tub with Jets, fancy Light fixtures, and Paintings...The Plaza isn't for you! But if you like the convenience of being close to other Casino's, a comfortable Bed to rest your head, a place to clean up and change clothes, and head out for another day.....then give the Plaza a try! But then I liked The "Lady Luck " too! What a sad story!

Good hotel for the price. Room was clean and spacious. I would stay there again while in Las Vegas.
