31 year old female with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

Booked this hotel last minute for a relaxing night away in St Andrews. Arrived and were checked into Room 2 which was directly above and bar and was a twin instead of a double, they made it into a double by pushing the beds together. The main light didn't work, the curtains feel off the rail when we tried to close them, the shower head fell apart when my husband was in the shower and the windows had definetely not been washed in months. We left the hotel and had drinks and food in The Oak Rom which was a great restaurant 2 mins walk from the hotel. After a few drinks here and in the Greyfriars Hotel (which also looked like a great place to stay) we returned to the hotel about midnight to find there was a singer on in the bar and it was absolutely jumping. We bought a drink but couldn’t find a seat or a place to stand so took the drinks up to our room, however we could hear every word the singer said and the noise from the bar was unbearable. After about 45 mins of this my husband went down to complain and was told by the on duty manager that they were selling the hotel part of the building as the pub was doing so well, and that we should have been warned about the room being noisy. He said he couldn't do anything about the noise but we did get the room for £50 instead of £100, but even at that price I felt it wasn't worth the money and we wished we'd stayed somewhere else. We declined staying for breakfast as you basically eat it in the bar which didn't look like it had been cleaned from the night before. So instead of a relaxing night away we left feeling very tired and disappointed. I would not recommend staying in this hotel and it was certainly not worth £100 for a room.
