Penn Hills was very, very dated and neglected. The resort seemed like it had been built 20-30 years ago and barely maintained since then. It seemed that they built the resort and ran out of money to maintain it so they've been doing the bare minimum over the last 20 years.

Everything was very dated. The facilities and rooms were in varying states of disrepair. It looked like they abandoned the place for a few years then just reopened it. Sadly, that's not the case.

I wouldn't recommend staying here unless you get a great deal and don't want to do anything on the resort grounds. The room was clean so that was a big positive. We had a good time just using it as a place to sleep at night, we went off the resort each day to do other things.

We only stayed here for 2 nights, that was more than enough. The place just had a very rundown, deserted, feel to it. It was sort of depressing.

We returned home yesterday (Aug. 19, 2006) from a 6-day stay at Penn Estates. Our first impression of the place was an offensive odor that met us as soon as we opened the door. The furniture, electric percolator, and decor were from the 60's. The one and only TV had a remote that would only change volume, channel up and down and mute-no numbers to choose a station or to go to a previous channel.

They wanted us to do our dishes, but didn't give us a dish towel. I had to use a bath towel! I also had to ask for washcloths and hand towels. We never did receive the hand towels.

The ceiling was really stained and the blinds on the slider were of various shapes and origins. We would definitely not go back and, in fact, we cut our stay short.
