Springfield was originally known as Calhoun, IL, named after South Carolina Senator, John Calhoun. John simply fell out of favor with locals, at which point they renamed Calhoun ?Springfield?, which leads us into a semi-rough analogy: you see, Pear Tree Inn has little fear of being renamed ?Springfield? because we have little fear that we?ll fall out of favor with you. Make sense? . Starting a day in Springfield with our free continental breakfast is a fine way to kick off a day of bountiful business endeavors or site seeing. Even though we want you to enjoy our free amenities, we don?t want to limit your enjoyment of Springfield. The Illinois State Capitol has a lot to offer during those rare moments where you don?t feel like being in your hotel room. Yes, the State Capitol (and former office of President Obama) itself is one attraction worth seeing, but keeping in the political vein, the Lincoln Home is definitely worth your time as well. All in all, Springfield surely has plenty to offer, and coupled with our free amenities, we?re confident you won?t be disappointed. .

We were only there for a quick over night... we didn't use service options or have time to check out a lot of the extras but what we saw we really liked and the employees we came into contact with were pleasant.

Horrible
The staff was very nice. However, the rooms had a bad odor of dampness to them. All rooms had an odor. The wallpaper was coming off in one of the rooms because of the moisture.

Excellent
The rooms were good size and very clean. Staff was helpful in finding a local, non-chain restaurant. Continental breakfast was adequate to be advertised as such.
