Excellent
We went to the Peaks to hike, ended up staying in the lodge and eating at the restaurant. What a treat! Our room overlooked the lake and we were able to sit in our rocking chairs and watch the deer walking by. It was truly amazing. It is absolutely...

Think basic dorm room. Cinder block walls, basic furniture. No TV, no phone in room. None of the expected amentities, like coffee maker. During the night a car alarm outside our door went on for an hour, could not even call the front desk, which made me feel insecure. Since there is little or no cell phone reception, I view this as a safety issue in the event of a medical, or other emergency.

The Peaks of Otter Lodge is one of our favorite weekend get-away places.
The good: Every room has a balcony or patio that overlooks Abbott Lake (I recommend reserving a second floor room, if possible). The restaurant is reasonably priced, especially for a lodge in a setting like this. Each room has a slatted, locking screen door at each end, so if the weather is nice, you can get a nice breeze going and still be secure. There are no distractions in the room (no TV, radio, phone, cell phone service, etc.), so you actually get a chance to reconnect with your loved ones. The setting is awesome! You will most likely see deer feeding on the lawn as you look out over the lake.
The bad: The beds are extremely firm! There isn't much difference between the floor and the bed. We always bring along thick bed toppers and still aren't completely comfortable.
