Bad service, bad food – Posted Apr 11, 2007

Horrible
20 year old with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

I warn everyone to stay away from this hotel.

My friends and I stayed here for a week in July. Our first mistake that was made was staying in this hotel in the summer time (there is no air conditioning). When booking the room, we requested that we were on a higher floor and a two bedded room.

Upon arrival, we were given a one bedded, very small condensed room on a lower floor. Which was even worse since there was no air conditioning, we were baking. When we got there, we had no help from the workers. We were three girls and when we asked to have help with all of our bags, they pointed to a corner where the luggage racks were (of course the one that they had there was broken). After hauling our luggage to our room, we were even more upset that it was not what we asked for, so we had to go and complain for the proper room.

They were kind enough to give us what were originally booked, but we still had to carry our luggage up another two flights of stairs. Since they only have one elevator, it would have taken a lesser amount of time to just walk up the stairs. The room they gave us still had problems. The bathroom door didn't have a lock, and the shower head didn't work properly, but other than that, we decided to just stick this room out. It wasn't until night time that the extent of our misery started.

As mentioned before, there wasn't any air conditioning, and the employees suggestion to open up the window wasn't working for us. When we complained for the umpteenth time they finally gave us some fans, one of which was broken. The last, but certainly not the least problem, was the food. The hotel had a restaurant at the bottom of the hotel, but it was overpriced and not intriguing at all. Also, we couldn't find any food around the area. Even though it was a bit pricey, we ate in the Gaslamp two of the nights were there, but didn't want to spend all of our money just on the food, so we tried searching for fast food. The only place we found after driving for 30 minutes was an outdoor Jack in the Box where there was a bulletproof window separating you from the woman working the register. We of course, hurried out of that neighborhood ASAP. The hotel did offer a continental breakfast, but it was horrid. What food they had hardly would be considered a meal. My friends and I had hardly eaten at all, but we still wouldn't put ourselves through stale bagels and old orange juice. The only upside about this place was it was a straight drive to the convention center, but that isn't enough to keep a person coming back.

Everything I have written above is very true (and very sad) but if you still feel the urge to give this place a try, at least take these suggestions into consideration:

1. Do not stay here in the summer time. You will not get any sleep, and the employees here do not care.

2. Make sure you stop at a grocery store on the way into town unless you're able to afford eating at expensive/mediocre restaurants every night of your trip.

3. Get the employees to help you to your room so when you have to switch them, they will be able to do their jobs by carrying your luggage to the appropriate destination.

Good luck.
