This is truly a wonderful get-a-way. Nestled in the hills of Carmel the Highlands Inn is a true departure from the norm. The views are sweeping, the rooms decadent, and the hospitality is unsurpassed.
The rooms are high end and decorated in deep warm tones. The spa tubs are a centerpiece in the room. Yes, a centerpiece. You can relax on the deck high above the Pacific Ocean while checking out the multi-million dollar homes.
The only thing better is the on-site restaurant, The Pacific Edge. It is a special place. It's not cheap, but you don't leave feeling like you overpaid. You feel like you've had a special dining experience. If you are a wine lover, you'll be amazed at the wine selection. My husband could spend hours just enjoying the wine book. The wine cellar is supposedly an amazing thing as well and is always something my husband tries to get a sneak view of. The views are amazing from the restaurant as well.
We actually had a room that allows dogs. I believe they really only allow small dogs. I say, define small. We pushed the limits, but no one seemed to mind.
They also have a nice little breakfast or lunch spot on site as well. Once up the hill, you don't really want to make too many trips back and forth.
The cost is expensive, but they do have deals and, for us, we are fortunate to have a family member that works for Hyatt.
