Great
Carlthefish icon Amazing views and accommodations

This is truly a wonderful get-a-way. Nestled in the hills of Carmel the Highlands Inn is a true departure from the norm. The views are sweeping, the rooms decadent, and the hospitality is unsurpassed.

The rooms are high end and decorated in deep warm tones. The spa tubs are a centerpiece in the room. Yes, a centerpiece. You can relax on the deck high above the Pacific Ocean while checking out the multi-million dollar homes.

The only thing better is the on-site restaurant, The Pacific Edge. It is a special place. It's not cheap, but you don't leave feeling like you overpaid. You feel like you've had a special dining experience. If you are a wine lover, you'll be amazed at the wine selection. My husband could spend hours just enjoying the wine book. The wine cellar is supposedly an amazing thing as well and is always something my husband tries to get a sneak view of. The views are amazing from the restaurant as well.

We actually had a room that allows dogs. I believe they really only allow small dogs. I say, define small. We pushed the limits, but no one seemed to mind.

They also have a nice little breakfast or lunch spot on site as well. Once up the hill, you don't really want to make too many trips back and forth.

The cost is expensive, but they do have deals and, for us, we are fortunate to have a family member that works for Hyatt.

travelpoet icon A great hotel, but not up to the hype

Maybe our expectations were too high, but I left here feeling "under-whelmed". The room we stayed in felt stuck somewhere between the lodge's historic past and now. Plaid upholstery on the couch, bare wood walls, old tube-style TV, brass fixtures, you get the picture.

The Pacific Edge restaurant is a phenomenal venue and that has to be pretty highly weighted in to your "value" for dinner or you may come up short, not to say the food or wine (4000 bottles in the cellar) are not superb. It's just that for $150-$200 per person (after wine/liquor) this has to be a pretty fabulous dinner.

Don't try walking to Los Lobos State Reserve, the road is too treacherous. The park however is a treasure, make sure you get there.

Carmel is surprisingly short of great hotels, but I would recommend trying the new Auberge instead of the Highlands Inn.

I am somewhat likely to return to the Park Hyatt Carmel Highlands Inn.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.

This is an historical, famous hotel. The upgrading and the modernization of the facilities have been well done, keeping the original as much as possible. Both restaurants have high standards in food service. The lobby area and the adjoining bar have wonderful views.

I am somewhat likely to return to the Park Hyatt Carmel Highlands Inn.
I might recommend it to friends.

This hotel was absolutely beautiful! We had fantastic views from our room. The decorating was lovely and the service was wonderful! They have friendly and accommodating service personnel. It's comfortable and convenient, quiet and private. It was very expensive, but worth it! Everyone should stay there at least once. You will want to go back!
