Don't plan to spend time inside - it's depressing! – Posted Nov 06, 2009

Horrible
traveling with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure

I travel a lot for work and have stayed in good, bad and ugly hotels (the cheapest aren't always the worst, the most expensive not always the best) My opinion of the Paramount - the location is superb (but there are lots of other hotels around Times Square to choose from). I was prepared for a small room after reading reviews - but the room was still much, much smaller than I expected. It made London rooms look like apartments in Trump Towers. My suitcase only literally fit on the floor alongside the bed, close to the door - and that was the biggest free space available. (On a serious note if there'd been a fire I don't know how I'd have got out of the room!)

Wireless connection was iffy - mobile phone reception iffy too. I actually thought that maybe there was no wi-fi but I perservered and in the end managed to get connected.

The air conditioning was hard to control and exceptionally noisy. It literally sounded like workmen were banging on the pipes all night. I could sleep through a bombing raid but even I found it loud. As another reviewer said - this was compounded by the ac being within less than a foot from the bed.

The tv remote control was so unresponsive I had to punch the buttons hard to get it to work. I ended up paying for a film I didn't watch because I couldn't steer away from it quickly enough.

Unlike other reviewers I didn't get a bargain rate and so I feel I have been robbed. In fact, I paid over the odds thinking the rooms looked good on the website.

If I stayed in New York again - I'd find a hotel towards Central Park. New York is a fantastic city to walk in, it's easy to navigate and get around and walking to Times Square from there is no problem.

I travelled alone which I do frequently (I extended a business trip)and found this one of the most depressing hotels I have stayed in. I ended up staying out as I could so I didn't have to be there.

Plus points - superb deli next door!

All in all - you can probably get better value for money and somewhere more comfortable - just shop around.
