Palace Motel New Bern

i would like to say every one if you spend $100 and even you get worst sevices and filthy room, so this pne is so far better than that price

Hi! I hate to write negative reviews but I have to warn you on this one. My wife & daughter and I went to New Bern last weekend & wanted to save a buck by staying at a cheaper motel. After searching online and reading the mostly positive reviews of the Palace Motel it sounded like it was a fairly decent place for the money. NOT SO! Although they were in the process of remodeling, it was still way, way, way below acceptable. The room smelled like collard-greens & swamp-gas, the front door wouldn't close or lock easily, some of the glass in the front window was broken, the sink was stopped-up and once it filled up we saw that there was someone's tooth floating in the water (which incidentally had a small cavity & some serious tartar issues), the toilet didn't flush well, there were some cigarette ashes behind the bathroom door, the shower was dirty with small pieces of used soap stuck to the surface, the shower curtain was filthy with mold, the tub drain was clogged and filled up with disgusting water above your ankles, the ceiling was falling apart, and there were prostitutes trolling the parking lot. My wife & I later admitted that we both had privately scanned the room in search of adequate weapons to use when the clan of meth addicts inevitably began breaking in later that night. I planned on using a drawer while my wife decided a lamp would be best as her weapon. I've stayed in some sketchy places in NYC, New Orleans, and even Bangalore India, but nothing comes close to the Palace. I would say that the Palace Motel might deserve another look in a few months once their renovations are completed, but until then, stay well away from this hell-hole unless you are a lady of the night, a much built & very drunk college student with several friends, or you've been stranded on an island for six or more years.

The motel is old, and requires some much needed upgrades. I got the room for my parents when they came to visit, and regretted it. The linen was clean, but that was about it. They did not unpack and slept in there clothes. Other guests were hanging out side and drinking until late at night. Overall I would say unless you have all your shots, can't spare an extra 30 dollars, are single, and have your insurance policy all paid up, stay away.

I contacted the office after spending way too much time trying to find a web site that offered more detail and photos, which won't happen, because they do not have their own site!

Once the woman answered the phone, she just continued repeating that "It's just a motel!" I literally felt like I was pulling teeth. My questions were only answered with a 'yep' or 'nah', no information was really provided to me. I've never witnessed any business that did not take the lead in providing thorough info when a potential (and unfamiliar) patron asked for help.

I'd never consider staying here, having to rely on an incompetent staff to accommodate my family, when the phone courtesy is even out of their league. Its no wonder the availability is 'wide open'.

I have stayed at this hotel several times. I must say that it is by no means top of the line, but the friendly service and well cleaned rooms sure make a big difference. The price for the rooms was very reasonable and the customer service was outstanding and considerate when you are not able to arrive or depart at a certain time. I would recommend this location to anyone who is looking for friendly service and a good night's rest.
