It was better when it was called Vacation Village, now all they want is way too much money for poor service.
This last summer our large family with about 50 people stayed at the Pacific Edge Hotel. We had 10 rooms through out the property. The only thing this hotel has going for them is their location on the Beach. We have gone there for a number of years when it was called Vacation Village. Now with new owners and a new name they have decided that customer service is no longer a necessary part of business. We were quoted one rate on paper and another rate on the phone. Rather than resolving the matter they chose to call me a liar. There were several people in our party that had larger rooms and cheaper rates, but beacuase my family had booked a year in advance and before the down turn in economy we paid almost double the rate of anyone else and were in the smallest room. We paid ~$320 per night for a one bedroom two bed room overlooking the pool, while other families in our party had 2 bedrooms, with a kitchen and 3 beds for ~199.00 per night overlooking the ocean. We tried several times to resolve with the front desk and the manager while we were there, but they never returned our phone calls and just stated the rate is what it is. The front desk personnel could not change and never seemed to be able to locate the manager. I am not even sure that the rate we paid is what we agreed to a year ago. Other family members had actually saved their email confimations with lower rates than what they said we agreed to at check-in and were able to get rates changed. I think they are pulling a bait and switch scam!!
We did not have this documentaion and ended up paying the higer rate. Unfortunately we will be looking for a new place to stay in Laguna Beach in years to come.
We have been staying here since the 70`s, because of the Great location. All anyone would need is right there, ocean, beach, quaint little town, great restruants. The rooms are nice, but we never spend much time in them, only to sleep and shower. If...

Okay
We have stayed here every year in May since 2000,Love the location and beach front rooms.Last year will be our last year as the rates have gone from $139.00 a night(in 2000) to over $300.00 a night for the same room..I do understand inflation ,but...
We encountered numerous problems that ensure we will not be staying at the Pacific Edge again.
To begin with, the management was deceptive. They assessed us with numerous hidden fees, including one for parking that they failed to mention originally
In the past, Vacation Village dollar for dollar was quite reasonable and a pleasant , clean (well worn and dated) ,friendly atmosphere to boot. Since change of ownership the rates have gone so high and along with the steep rates ones expectations in
Great Location But Needs Updating

Okay
Vacation Village offers a great location but the accomodations and facilities are dated. To call this place "luxury" as the website does is a stretch. Positives: 1) location, location, location. Direct beach access and nice walk to the center of...
I just spend 3 nights at this property with 6 from my family(4 adults & 3 children). We had a 2 room suite that was right on the beach. I have to say that made our trip very, very nice. We even got to see some dophins as they swam by a few times one...
Great Location and Town -- Hotel is disappointing

Mediocre
Location was amazing, we had room 139 which was directly above the shore line. In the evenings we could sit on the balcony and watch the dolphins. Short walk to center of town where the people were very friendly and the shops were very nice. ...

Vacation Village used to be a great annual get away for my family for at least 20 years. The decor was not exactly what I'd call 5 star, but it was a quaint little hotel on the beach and very family friendly. Since ownership has changed the rates are ridiculous and gone are the days of free parking for guests. It has now out-priced many of its long time returning customers, and new customers won't pay those kind of prices for a hotel that could use some updating.
In the past I can say the rooms were clean, the staff were very friendly and the convenience of having everything so close that we could forget about the car was a major draw. But at those rates I'd rather stay somewhere worth the extra cash.
Another gripe are the Spa packages. Spa services are offered, but there is no mention of the spa being down the street... if you are going to offer spa services at a hotel they are typically AT the hotel.
Overall I would love to recommend this hotel, its been a second home for years, but rates they are charging are ridiculous for the room quality as well as the services supposedly offered.
