The Orchard Hotel is fabulous. The staff was extremely friendly and ready to help us with anything we needed.
The food at Vignette, the hotel restaurant, was one of the best meals I've ever had. Vignette was moderately expensive, but it's worth it. The hotel provides a choice of free DVDs that you can "rent" out. The location was nice, close enough to Union square to easily walk to the BART, cable car and bus lines, but far enough away so you can get a little peace and quiet.
They also provided robes and slippers, an amenity that made me and the people I was with very, very comfortable. Their continental breakfast was delicious. I've heard complaints that the food was unsustainable, and that they were disappointed in the overall food choice. I couldn't disagree more. They offer boiled eggs, bagels, cheeses, slices of ham, oatmeal, a great selection of coffee, juices and a nice choice of cereal.
I was satisfied. I will definitely be coming here on my next trip again, and you should consider it.
