I would stay at the Omni Detroit River Place again, but next time, I would be more prepared.
On the plus side, the hotel was essentially empty and everything ran smoothly: the check-in desk, valet, the in-hotel restaurant, they were all very quick and efficient. The rooms themselves are quite elegant on first glance, and the views (if you score one) are pretty nice, the river and then the glittering lights of Windsor, Canada.
What was a shame, however, was that all of the gold work additions (in the bathroom as towel bars, on the walls of the hotel as hooks, etc.) were loose. In our bathroom, both of the towel bars came off, as did the support handle in the bath/shower. The amenities were just OK, if you're looking for something upscale on that front (Bliss, Aveda, Fresh) then you're out of luck, they have just generic hotel toiletries here.
We were also digging for electrical outlets, with everything they already have plugged in, there were only two electrical plugs available for use. For two people with only cell phones to charge that might be OK, but factor in a laptop or Treo or anything else and you'll be deciding between light or the laptop, just something to be aware of. We were going to move the bed to see if there was an outlet, but the barriers at the bottom of the bed weren't the cleanest and finally we just gave up.
I would definitely inspect the room carefully before unpacking, as the staff is eager to please and would probably move you if you pointed these things out. We were just in town for a hockey game, so we dealt with it.
Overall, the hotel was quite nice. And it should be noted that the staff at the in-house restaurant is knowledgeable, friendly, and quick, We had a great experience there and would go back anytime just for the food. They provide the meals for the room service menu as well, which is essentially the same.
