Edinburgh Castle, visible from the hotel, and Holyrood Palace are half a mile away. Edinburgh Airport (EDI) is seven miles from the hotel, and Edinburgh Waverley train station is across the road. Hotel Features. Built in 1848, the Old Waverley Hotel retains a period feel, with patterned wallpaper and old photographs of Edinburgh throughout. A 24-hour front desk can provide advice on Edinburgh's top attractions, and room service is available around the clock. There is discounted parking at an NCP car park close to the hotel. Cranston's Restaurant serves Scottish and European dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This first-floor restaurant features dark wood decor, and has panoramic views over Princes Street Gardens and Edinburgh Castle. International wines and Scottish malt whiskies are available in the Waverley Lounge bar. Guestrooms. The Old Waverley Hotel's 85 guestrooms offer satellite television, pay-per-view movies, trouser presses and tea/coffee making facilities. Many of the modern rooms are decorated in traditional style, and have views of Edinburgh Castle. Bathrooms feature complimentary toiletries and extra towels. Expert tip. Princes Street Gardens, opposite the hotel, was the site of a lake called the Nor Loch. Before it was filled in during the mid-19th century, it was used for a number of things including 'witch dunking' and smuggling.

Good
I like the Old Waverly Hotel first for the location. It's right across from the Waverly Train Station and the bus to the airport. If you're lucky, you can get a room with a view of the castle. I've enjoyed great meals in the hotel lounge.
