Oceanside Inn and Suites Jekyll Island Hotel - Page 1

We recently stayed at The Oceanside Inn and Suites in July 2007 and were very disappointed. The pool looked like a swamp and was closed. We were not made aware of this prior to or during check-in and were not offered any sort of compensation or discount for this inconvenience. The hotel and room were poorly maintained and in desperate need of attention. Trash was all over the grounds and everything was horrible. Not worth the money or trouble, stay somewhere else.

This hotel has old wings that need serious renovation. Our room was not clean, the fan in the bathroom was caked with dirty lint, the window had paint dripping down which blocked the view and was dirty. In short, if you choose this place, be sure to look at the room and make sure it is clean and pleasant. Wonderful beach, very poor room!

We reserved 5 rooms at this motel. The first room was to be an Oceanside with a King bed efficiency. When we arrived we were given a double room. It had a refrigerator and microwave, but no stove and dishwasher as advertised on their web page. The dishes and coffee pot, we found under the bathroom sink. There was no coffee for the pot. The bathroom needed a good sweeping behind the door. They said that they were renovating was why we got the double instead of the king.

The second room was a double as requested but our friends had to beat on the door for our help to get out. It kept getting stuck on them. Their bathroom light did not work and they had no towels or washcloths. Their bathroom needed a good sweeping too. They had the same problem of no coffee pot in sight so we told them to look under the sinks in the cabinet. It took the hotel more than 7 hrs and several requests later to get them the towels and washcloths and finally maintenance came and helped get the door where it would open halfway decent and the bathroom light to work.

The third room was the better of the rooms. Everything was there, except the coffee. The fourth and fifth rooms were to be checked into the next day. These were not available until after 5:00 pm and check in time is 4:00 pm. We were told that 4:00 is the guaranteed time. The people at the front desk had a bad attitude when they were asked at 4:00 pm how much longer they would have to wait to check in. The fourth room did not have the dishes and coffee pot available, they were under the sinks too. There was no stove or dishwasher. The fifth room was at the far end of the hotel away from the first 4 rooms and again there were no towels or washcloths in the room when they arrived and it took a long time to finally get some. All 5 rooms only had a very small trash can in the bathroom except the fourth room which had no trash can at all.

The grounds of the hotel were in desperate need of maintenance. The pool had cracks along the top edge. You could see the metal molding bulging in areas. The grass was full of sand spurs. The walk out to the beach was littered with cactus pieces and the boardwalks to the beach are in need of being made sturdier.

We paid a total of $846.93 to stay in these rooms and have decided that next year we will look elsewhere.
