25 year old with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure
My boyfriend and I recently visited Fort Lauderdale Beach for vacation. I made the travel arrangements through CheapTickets.com and saw that Ocean Sky Resort had the most affordable rates with the best location. I read the mediocre to horrible reviews for the hotel but after visiting their website decided to take a chance and try it out. My boyfriend and I are both in our early 20's so we were not searching for anything extravagant. When we arrived to our hotel to check in the lady at the desk told me there were no reservations for me. I presented her the confirmation number and receipt from where I booked the hotel three weeks prior (the hotel had already drafted the full amount of the hotel charges from my bank account). She was extremely rude and acted like it was my fault. She then told ME to call cheap tickets and see what the problem was. I asked for the manager who was also very rude but, she told me to have a seat and she would call them. 20 minutes passed and I asked the manager if she had spoken with someone and she said no she was still on hold. I then called CheapTickets and spoke with someome within 2 minutes of calling. They informed me that they had sent the reservation to Ocean Sky on the day I made them (3 weeks prior). Cheap Tickets gave me a confirmation and contract number and faxed the hotel my reservation once again. I once again spoke with the manager about the situation after she received the fax from CheapTickets. I asked her if we were going to have a room and she said she would "have to check." I was furious at this point. Finally after the manager spoke to someone at cheaptickets herself, she pulled us up a room. This took over an hour and when I asked her whose fault it was she said she couldnt tell me. I then said, "so you are saying it is cheaptickets fault." She said it was no one's fault it just happened. I have dealt with 3 year old that take more responsibility for their screw ups than she did. This hotel is right on the beach, but it is a car or bus ride from the nightlife and any decent places to eat. The rooms are crappy and the doors can be easily broken into. The cleaning service also stole our magazines from our hotel room. The halls smelled disgusting and there is construction and maintenance going on. The trip was fun since Fort Lauderdale is beautiful, but the hotel is horrible and I will NEVER stay there again and advise people to read and trust the reviews...they are right!!
