Construction was everywhere! We knew when we booked that there would be construction however we were told that we would not be bothered by it. HA! The pool was supposed to be done with construction by August 31st. We arrived August 30th and we're told that pool would not be ready until September 7th (we were leaving on the 4th) They told us that they would provide us a cab to the Southernmost House to use their pool. That is a community pool and the first day Ocean Key could not provide us any towels so we could not go because you need a towel to use the lounge chairs at the pool. The elevator to our room was not working. We were told that it would be working the following day however that never happened! Instead every morning when we left our room we would open our door to plywood that was covering the elevator door. The first morning we woke up early not because of the rooster crowing but because of all of the banging and sawing. We decided to make the best of it and go for a delicious breakfast at the Hot Tin Roof. There we sat outside on the balcony that overlooked the ocean however we could not hear over the construction that was being done at the pool. We decide to go onto Duval and check out some other Hotels to see if we could check in. Labor day weekend and everything was booked. Our toilet did not flush correctly. CD player in the room did not work and the refrigerator made loud enough sounds at night to wake us up. We heard every conversation that the people next door had after being told by the Bell Hop that the doors were heavy and sound proof HA! This was a special trip to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday. The hotel came highly recommended and the worse part was that it was very expensive and for what? I could have slept in Mallory Square and had a better night's rest. Forget trying to even nap during the day. We even tried to book massages but thankfully one of the hotel employees was actually honest with us and told us not to for the simple fact that we would not enjoy it because of all of the noise. Lesson Learned! They did take 20% off the total bill but for me I could care less. Never Again. Key West is beautiful. The locals are awesome. Dinner at Lattitudes was wonderful. We took a sunset sailboat with two women that captained the boat from the Hyatt they were amazing! Duval Street was great. Blue Heaven, Bare Bottems, waitress at the wharf, the Aqua, the pool. Great memeories and we made some great friends from Michigan. Too bad we didn't stay somewhere else :(

Everything was great - location, room, pool. We didn't eat at the Hot Tim Roof, so don't know about that. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Room was great - we had an oceanview room, but one of the ones that overlooked the parking lot also. ...

If this isn't Paradise, I don't know what is. After returning from the British Virgin Islands this place is a great turnaround.
The service was personable and accommodating unlike the BVI. The staff was always saying hello and looking out to help you. I must have made at least three new friends (read: the staff). Unlike my experiences in the BVI! After going to the American Caribbean Island of St. Thomas and going to the American Caribbean Island of Key West, the Caribbean Island you can drive to (K.W.) is a much better vacation.
I had no problems with the room, beautiful in every way. Refinements all around, the staff takes pride in the way the place is kept from the bathroom to the patio terrace. I was on the fourth floor (only allowed to build five stories in K.W.) and had a perfect view of the Ocean-beautiful azure Seas ~everyday and Mallory Square. There are two restaurants. "Hot Tin Roof" is an intimate dining venue with outdoor seating. Cool and breezy on the terrace outside. Plenty of overhead fans to circulate the already warming air from the Atlantic Ocean.
Our dinner consisted of an appetizer of tempura dipped, seaweed wrapped crab cake that was an outstanding presentation. The main entree of macadamia nut crusted grouper was tender perfection. So fresh from the sea, they must get it right from the fishing fleet a couple blocks away. The other restaurant is actually the pier that is juxtaposing out from the harbor cove into the ocean. You can find the best sunset in America here. Looking out onto the Ocean while enjoying a remarkable sunset~with a cervas~is a good thing! I saw on-line that many reviews had nothing but good things to say about this resort. I can't agree more. When you have a Caribbean resort so close and accessible why would you go to a passport destination?
