The location was good, across the street from Penn Station. The room was huge, though there was not a lot in it and it was a bit pricey.

The Worst

Simply - don't go! Dirty rooms, disgraceful staff attitude, very poor value for money. This is honestly the worst hotel I've ever stayed in (even after 'upgrading' to a premium rate room). My stay was from 12 to14 October, such a shame - it spoiled a first visit to New York.

Great hotel , I love it !!
Every year i go for my vacation to Manhattan , and every year i stay in this great hotel.
The rooms are big and clean .
Every day the clean up your room , and give new towels.
The people the work there are very very nice and helpful.
I love the location of the hotel , a second walk to ESB , macys , Manhattan Mall , Madison Square Garden , Central park walk in 20 min , Broadway/ Times square walk in 15 min.
I love it
A++++++++
In two weeks i go back to this great Pennsylvania hotel for the 6 time.

The location was convenient to Penn Station. The room was filthy, with exposed wires, mold on the ceiling and the walls, the carpet was dirty, there was broken furniture, peeling paint, old and marked up toilet and bathtub and it smelt of mildew. The staff was less than accommodating when concerns were addressed. Reluctantly they offered a new room, in moderately better condition. I was told prior to arriving I would have internet access only to be told upon arrival that I would need a cable. I asked for one and I was told it would be delivered to my room and it never was. I would advice other tourists that the poor accommodations are not worth the convenience to the train station and to spend the extra money and take a cab!

I stayed at this hotel for a three day weekend. Let's start with one of the few good things about this hotel. The location is SPECTACULAR!! This hotel is located right in the center of midtown New York City. Right across from Penn Station and Madison Square Garden and VERY to the Empire State Building and Times Square. Hotel Penn was built in 1919, go a floor or more down or up from the main lobby and you can definetly tell. The hotel's website says it was renovated recently, it was, but only the lobby. The hallways remind me of the titanic, very wide, large, and gloomy. My bathroom tile was rotting and the bed post had a piece of wood missing. But it gave us everything we needed.

A raw deal

The check-in was like a cattle mart. It took me over 3 hours to check in. I tried 6 rooms before I found one in which the air conditioning was working. The shower area was dirty. The wardrobe consisted of a dark, tight, small hole in the wall which had a couple of wire hangers in it. I ate twice in the hotel. Each time a service charge of 18% was added even though there was no mention of this in the menu. In fact in the second case it explicitly said that such a charge would only be added for parties of 6 or more. We were a party of 2 and yet the waiter tried to add on this enormous service charge for what was, quite frankly, poor service. In short the corridors in the hotel reminded me of 'broadway' in Alcatraz.
Our three night stay there set me back over $500. Be warned. It is a hotel which should be given a very wide berth.

Customer service and clean rooms were something this hotel never had. Avoid this place.
Be prepared for a horrible room and equally horrible experience if you do choose to stay here!

This is a very old hotel, reasonably priced and clean.
This hotel made me feel practical: It is modestly furnished.

Every year I go for my vacation to New York, and every time I do, I stay at the Pennsylvania hotel.
This hotel is great, the people who work there are very, very nice and helpful. The location of the hotel is perfect! This year it is my seventh time to stay at this hotel, and I love it!

The Pennsylvanian was directly across from Madison Square and it was accessible to cabs, bus or rail lines. The suite was wonderful with great views. The hotel was elegant for the price and very accommodating to us. I highly recommend it and I will definitely go there again.
This hotel made me feel elegant: The doorman and the elevator attendant were a welcome change for me. The lobby was very well appointed. It is a very old place with a great history in the city.

The hotel in Pennsylvania is convenient and basic. You are paying for the fact that the hotel is in a central location. The hotel was built in 1919 and it is now starting to show its age. The lobby has chandeliers and red marble. Tall people will have a difficult time with the height of the shower. The staff was nice.
This hotel made me feel welcome: The staff upgraded us to a slightly better room at no additional charge.

The worst hotel ever

The only good thing about this hotel is the location. The hotel itself is very old. The staff is unfriendly and slow. The room is the worst, the carpet is very old and dirty; the bathroom smells like mold and urine where you don't even want to get into the tub to take a shower; the bed is uncomfortable and the bedding is so filthy that you don't want to touch it. I would strongly recommend you to stay away from this dump.

The hotel is set right outside Penn Station, this is a large hotel right in the centre of Manhattan. The lobby is grand and the staff is helpful. But the rooms are deteriorating, some had dirty bathrooms and carpets. But it didn't feel uncomfortable, and the cheap price made it worthwhile.
