We stayed at New York New York from 12/17 - 12/21/05 - and was very disappointed with the overall experience that we had.
Prior to booking, I had read online that the roller coaster is noisy. When I booked my reservation, I made a request for a room AWAY from the noise of the rollercoaster. At check-in, I again requested a room AWAY from the roller coaster. I was assured that my "Park Avenue" room on the 14th floor in the New York Tower was very quiet. The room was small and unimpressive. About 15 minutes after settling into my room, I heard a loud "whoosh" and people screaming. I looked out my window to see the roller coaster going right by my window. I called the front desk, and was told I could do a room change in the morning. We could not sleep until the ride closed at about 12:30 am.
After changing to the Century Tower on the 18th, we went to our room on the 24th floor. The "Broadway Deluxe" was bigger and better than the last one, and, it was a free upgrade from the desk for the previous problems. During the night, at about 3:00 am, we were awoke to the sound of several large "thuds" that shook the bed. We thought someone was physically fighting in the next room. In the morning, I found out that it's a room filled with machines and elevators used by employees.
On the 19th, housekeeping finally arrived at about 5:00 pm to make up the room. We asked them to come back at about 6:00 pm when we would be out of the room for the night. When we got back at 10:30 pm, the room was still not made up. I called "Cindy" in housekeeping and was told they would be 'right up'. We left for a snack and returned at 12:00 am. The room had not been touched. I again called "Cindy" in housekeeping to find out what the problem was. I was again told they would 'be right up.' I told them I was NOT going to wait any longer. I called the front desk, and complained to the night manager.
On the 20th, the room was finally made up, but, the maid took the comforter leaving just sheets and a blanket. At about 4 :00 am, we felt really cold because the comforter was gone. A very nice way to get some good sleep before leaving early to go to the airport at 7:30 am.... NOT !!!
Upon checkout, we told the clerk how our stay with them REALLY was. We were told the manager would be told about it, contact us, and try to "make things right." I used the Spa - very average... a couple of treadmills, bikes, weight machines, and free weights --- nothing to brag about. NYNY looks quite nice on the inside and is a fine place to visit, but NOT to stay. There is no buffet; the America Restaurant was good, the pizza place was bad. The slot machines did not pay out at all ... On a 1-10 scale .... a generous 4. Start spreading the news ...The Luxor is soooo much better.
