I have to say that the hotel itself was lovely (the building, the layout, the location), unfortunately the staff were anything but. They were rude, unhelpful and unprofessional and wanted tips for doing nothing more than their job. I was forced into giving the porter a tip (he wouldnt let me leave without) and everyone who even looked like assisting you would then wait, expecting a tip for doing next to NOTHING. For a four star hotel I was bitterly disappointed and have stayed in better youth hostels. The room service was disgusting and the information desk was worse, with the member of staff not understanding what I or they were saying...The staff in the cafe were rude and no one within the hotel helped me in any way shape or form. To sum up, I felt guilty for not giving tips to people who did not deserve them in the slighest, I felt threatened because of this (the porter actually leaned over me demanding one - not blinking) I felt let down by the fact that no one helped me and I certainly felt unwelcome by all within the hotel (i cant begin to describe how disgusting and rude the room service staff were). All in all a horrible experience at the Marriott, which certainly needs to change its staff members. They let the hotel and New York down. It ruined my whole holiday and experience of New York and I was glad when I left; to call the employees four star service is a joke. The only good thing I can say is the bed and views were nice...and to save anyone else the anger and disappointment that I experienced, take your own luggage to your room and eat and drink outside of the hotel! Dont bother with the staff members! (unless of course you have hundreds of dollars to give them just for looking at you) I say all of this, but i am British and therefore this may be how all American hotels treat you, so if you are American i guess what i have said doesnt matter, if not then dont expect the lovely, welcoming staff you get in Europe! And make sure you have plenty of money...

We consistently had elevator problems. On more than one occasion the elevator would simply stop with the doors shut, not moving. One time my daughter - who was feeling quite ill at the time - was stuck in the elevator for 25 minutes with 14 other

THE LOCATION WAS GREAT, BASICALLY YOU PAY FOR THAT. OTHERWISE I DIDNT FEEL THE ROOM WAS WORTH THE 300+ PER NIGHT. PLUS WHEN I CHECKED OUT THERE WAS AN ADDITIONAL CHARGE OF ABOUT $50 PER NIGHT THAT WAS NOT EXPECTED IN TAXES.
