Read a travel guide that called the rooms "gorgeous". Perhaps that was 20 years ago, or they were staying in a different hotel from me. Everything was clean but well worn and long in need of updating.
Front desk and restaurant staff are friendly...

I just got back from a trip to Kyoto. I stayed at the New Miyako and I couldn't have been happier. I asked my travel agent to get me close to Kyoto Station and this hotel is right across the street. It's so convenient and buses, trains, subways, etc ...
