This mountain hideaway offers everything from rafting, swimming horseback riding, games, to a playground for the kids and a tennis court. Everyone can enjoy themselves here, and it's a nature lover's paradise. The food is outstanding at the hotel/lodge. The service is great, at least in the summer ( I don't know about winter) the staff is very friendly and willing to provide and I always feel welcomed there. The mountain views and bike trails are also outstanding. If you're in North Carolina, then you should definitely stay at Nantahala.

Their website shows wonderful attractions and beauty. If you go in off season, expect absolutely no services and no available attractions.

Though still $100 plus per night, this resort is virtually closed. The celebrated restaurant was closed most of our stay (available only one dinner and one breakfast), room cleanup service is not available, and lodge locks up early which blocks access to common space, etc.

The web site does not advertise this, and employees do not inform you while making non-refundable reservations. There was a note on the door that the restaurant was closed, but no warning that the lodge itself closed. Employees were unhelpful about other options for food. The owner did not respond when I sent a letter of complaint.

Also, do not go unless you appreciate evangelical Christianity. The lobby is decorated almost exclusively in Bible verses. Music playing in the lobby and at the two meals were Christian hymns and praise music. It’s fine if you are looking for a Christian retreat, but I did not like driving 400 miles and paying $100 plus per night to have the owners try to evangelize me.
