I don't think that people understand that Naniloa was not upkept by the previous owners for over 20 years. When it was taken over by a local company, it was in a total mess and I like what they are doing to the place -- renovations and all...
Get the newly renovated, ocean front room...it's awesome! The price is great for a room that looks like a 4 star hotel...very modern but still charming and the ocean front balcony is heavenly.

I booked this hotel thinking that all rooms were newly renovated and especially since it is one of the biggest hotels in Hilo. Upon being checked in by a stoned faced unfriendly front desk clerk I requested a renovated room and she promptly told me ...
No Aloha from employees at all ! Workers seem mad to be working at hotel...ongoing renovations with construction is bad and noisy, should shut down business and perhaps renovations will be more quality all around.
