58 year old female with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure
We were looking for a house to buy in Punta Gorda in the spring of 08, and had our dog with us. Motel 6 was the only one that would take us. I didn't really want to stay there, but that was the only place we could go. The bed was good, but the door was sticking and I couldn't get it open, my husband could. We moved to another room and it was fine. We kept our dog in the bathroom and he did just fine. I liked the fact that we could walk him on the grassy area and he could get exercise. We came back in a few weeks and stayed in another room. Both times it smelled a little funny, but after the air was on, it was fine. I think it is more the FL mold than anything else, we had the same smell at Best Western in Punta Gorda (even worse) and at other FL motels. We could not use our lap top, but the Tourest Center (DQ) across the street had free internet. We were very pleased with this Motel 6. I think it has been fixed up since Charlie, and that helped. We had no trouble getting more towels when we wanted them. It did take forever to get the room the first time, because they were changing shifts and counting money (over and over). I was glad I waited the first 10 minutes, because we were able to stay with our dog.

We arrived around 10:30PM and when we walked into our room I knew that something was wrong. I went to the desk and told her the smell was unbearable, I thought it was pneumonia pet urine smelling. She said they are pet friendly. She told us that there was only handicapped room for non smokers and we took it. The pillow case looked like it had a who knows what stain on it, but we settled in watching TV. A few minutes later a man opens our door and apologized profusely. (Thank God we were fully clothed) The desk clerk called and also apologized. I know I'd think twice before staying at another Motel 6 and I'd definitely not stay at this one again.

They lost our reservation (with us arriving after midnight), gave us the wrong room accommodations, locks on the door are by-passed by all employees and I was walked in on 2 times even with the privacy locks ON (once by a man when I had just emerged from the shower). The young lady at the front desk was less than competent. When we asked for moer towles (only one set was left in the room) we were told that there were no more extra towels and they were not sure if they could get us any or not! I warily asked for 2 extra pillows as my husband has a sleep disorder and needs to elevate his head. We were told that there were no extra pillows in the hotel. The sheets were dirty when we arrived but we were so tired we slept in them anyway. When asked for them to be changed the following day, the maid looked at me as if I ahd asked for the moon. I must say, one housekkeepper was awesome and she did find us everything we requested. She was a wonderful lady and I was so thankful for her.
