35 year old with a luxury budget, traveling for leisure
My husband and 6 year old daughter and I just came back from a 3 night stay at the Moody Gardens Hotel in Galveston. I imagine that many years ago, this was a very nice hotel but now, it is in need of a facelift/remodel in a bad way. For the price that we paid, we expected at least a clean hotel, but I constantly felt like the property was dirty and unkept. The carpets are old, the bathroom in our room had peeling paint and a moldy bathtub. The common areas are old and musty. The on-site attractions are no better. The pyramids are lacking in both decor and activities. Especially Discovery Pyramid. The attractions are falling apart/broken. The Aquarium Pyramid smells very bad. I know there are fish, etc. but a good cleaning inside there would do wonders. The Palm Beach area appears nice at first, until further inspection, which shows the pool water to be dirty and the fake rocks to be slimy. The common hallways and restaurant areas are not clean either. Stains, bits of food etc in the corners. Just an overall lack of attention it seems. For the prices they charge and the amount of people that were there, they can afford to fix these things. If you are going to Galveston my advice is stay somewhere else, perhaps Hotel Galvez or The San Luis Resort and take a day trip to Moody Gardens. For all it's faults, my daughter did enjoy the attractions. It will take no more than a day to see/do the attractions and you would still have time to go to Schlitterban next door. Then after a long day there, go back to your nicer hotel and be glad you are there!
