The Monte Carlo offers what I consider to be the baseline Las Vegas experience. The hotel and casino is well located, right on the strip across from the MGM, so it has that going for it. It's a big hotel with an on-site show (Lance Burton and no, I didn't see it), restaurants, pool and a large casino. But everything was just plain average and bland. The casino floor lacked excitement, and the restaurant we visited (Caliente - mexican food) was just acceptable - it had only been open for a few days, however, so perhaps they'll improve.

The new city center (an 8 billion dollar project!) is going up next door, but I didn't have any noise or disruptions because of the construction. My room was large and clean and quiet. My only complaint is that the toilet lid didn't stay up on it's own - minor issue yet, but an annoyance for sure.

I didn't use the pool but it looked nice (though must be noisy with the construction going on around it.) I did use the gym, which was one of the more memorable places in the hotel - it must have been renovated recently. On the other hand, a day pass to the gym set me back $19. Ouch!

Overall, I'd recommend if you're trying to save a few bucks but still want to be on the strip. But if you want to blow it out and have something more memorable, spend a few extra bucks.

This hotel was great 5-6 years ago. My husband and I use to stay at Monte Carlo regularly w/ great rates and coupons. We even bought nights as gifts for our parents several times my husband and I recommended it to others. Sad to say that is not the case anymore. We stayed there last year and noticed the rooms were not as clean or kept up as they use to be, the hotel wasn't as attractive as it had been yet the rates were more for much less than 5 years ago. We decided to give it another chance and swung for an upgraded room for a special occasion and were extremely disappointed. The room knocked you out w/ the smell of smoke as soon as the door was opened (non-smoking room) the room was dark, dingy, smelly w/ old furniture. The view was supposed to be of the pool and mountains. We saw a glimpse of the pool if we leaned in really close to the window and the top of a roof. We had to call and jump through some hoops to be relocated. They did move us into a bigger "nicer" room however. It is disappointing and sad that was once such a great comfortable hotel is no longer. The pool area is still nice.

Beautiful, clean, quiet and well appointed, the Monte Carlo was markedly less glitzy and less smoky than any of the many other Strip properties we visited.

The "Monaco Suite" was extremely comfortable- no complaints or suggestions.

The pool area was very nice, but nearby construction hurt the tropical feel.

All restaurants that we visited were well maintained and staffed with a wide selection of excellent food.

Some of the larger hotels were fun to walk through, but the Monte Carlo had a much more comfortable feel to come "home" to.

We will recommend the Monte Carlo to friends and will definitely return.

The Monte Carlo used to be a great place to stay, big enough to know you're in Vegas but small enough to find your friends in the casino. Since this property is now under the ownership of the MGM it is obvious they are not concerned about providing a good value to it's customers. The positives are that you don't need to walk through the casino to get to the food court or elevators to the rooms. The negatives are the casino is under renovation, they don't tell you this at booking, the MGM comp system is the WORST and there is a huge construction site next door that operates 24/7---stay anywhere but here!

My husband and I thought we'd splurge for the second leg of our Honeymoon and stay here, we were supremely let down, it was not nearly as clean as I had hoped, we had to change rooms twice, as I did not want a conjoined room. We had stayed at a Marriott hotel for the first leg of our trip and were so beyond impressed with absolutely everything that this hotel would have had a hard enough time to meet our new level of expectations.

our advice, may as well stay at the trop and save those few bucks for some great eats, or shoes!!

49 year old woman with a economy budget, traveling for leisure

Being a woman, I wanted to stay in a up class place since I was traveling with another woman and wanted to be safe and have a nice place to stay. When we got to the hotel wasn't easy to check in as I thought it would be. How hard could it be when you have reservations, BOY you would be surprised!

Going to our room we passed dishes in the hall put out from room served. The same dishes were there when we left 4 days later. No better place to gamble but the place you stay huh.. WRONG.. couldn't find a waitress to save our soul. I walked around the hole place looking for a waitress to get a drink and not being able to find out in the 3 hours the first time I gambled there. I ended up in a bar and paid 12.00 for a long island tea and a beer.. First mistake!.. Each time I tried to find a waitress for a drink when I was playing slots there was NONE around.

The bed was fine and room was ok.. Nothing special even looked out and seen all the construction going on instead of the nice view I hoped for. Last complained when we took a shower the water would almost reach the top of the tub since it drained so slow. Now is this a place you would want to pay higher rates.. going back to the Rivera next time since I stayed there and had NO complains.. again NO complains the 2 times in the past I stayed there. Just so you know I am a grown adult writing this I am 49 years old.

37 year old man with a moderate budget, traveling for business

It is the first time in vegas, being a frequent traveller visiting different level hotels in Middle East, Europe and US; I cannot say that my current experience was a great one.

The check in I didn't feel welcome and the guest affairs officer was acting like a security officers in one of the US airports, and not receiving a valued guest.

The security level and response in the hotel is awful when I complained about a missbehaviour by one of the hotel visitors.

comparing it in Vegas itself (without comparing to Dubai, Uk or Germany) Mandaly Bay is way beyound in quality and service.

I have been in Vegas many times since I was young. My parents stayed here at Monte Carlo every other year we came. Now as an adult I stay here very time I visit once a year with my wife.

I have been treated with the most respect out of all hotels. I am in the car business and customer service IS number one. So, thank you for my vacation time away from home and work for a great stay in Vegas.

We just returned from the LV yesterday 6/2/07. Stayed at Monte Carlo and it was OK. Rooms fairly clean, but you are apt to find that the rooms are not vacuumed regularly. The casino is not great. I couldn't buy a drink from a waitress let alone get a free drink at the machines. I gambled at the bar at the video poker machines where I found that the bartenders would not comp a frozen drink. Reason? I asked. Reply - Frozen drink mix is too expensive. I was asking for a virgin strawberry daiqueri. I wasn't asking for alcohol - just a glass of flavored slush. I was playing the machines but that didn't mean anything. I thought it was just the bartender but I was refused all week. Anyway, I spent my money at hotels other than the MGM brand hotels and had no problem. The best gambling is at the Palms hotel.

A little way off the strip but the deuce bus runs there every 15 minutes or so. I would never stay at an MGM hotel again. I would stay at any Harrah's hotel or independent hotel on the strip. Lots of construction going on at Monte Carlo and the view of the strip is all construction for now. We had a good time but the hotel left a lot to be desired.

Have a great Stay!
