45 year old man with a moderate budget, traveling for business

I travel to San Diego on business twice a month and after many years of doing so have found my stays at this hotel to be to my liking. Usually I can get a room mid-week with a AAA discount for about $80 which is reasonable for the area. The place is a bit old, but not run down and the old feel actually makes me feel right at home. Comfortable beds, clean/big rooms and great parking and close to many places to eat. I would think that the casual business traveler would find this a great stop.

Is it me or are there just too many mega-picky people reviewing hotels on this site? Jeez people, lighten up and enjoy life.

28 year old man with a moderate budget, traveling for business

First arriving they gave me two beds instead of a one bed room. Then the second room they put me smelled of urine coming out of the a/c vent. I tried to take a shower but the drain was completely clogged, so after the janitor un-clogged the drain, I attempted to shower. The hot water lasted only a moment before turning cold every time I would bathe.

On Saturday morning at 11 a.m., there was only cold water, thinking of how late in the morning it was I waited 15 minutes to possibly let the water warm up. When I checked the water the second time there was nothing but air in the pipes. I walked down to the lobby to find out what was going on and the lady informed me that I was supposed to have moved from that room because there will be no hot water for a week in that building. She told me I had to wait until 1pm before another room was available.

So now shortly after moving to the third room my wife calls me from home telling me that the Alaska Airlines credit card " (through Bank of America) that I only used at the Mission Valley Resort Hotel" had some possible fraudulent charges and to call ASAP. B of A said there was an attempted purchase at the College Sports Network in Carlsbad, CA for $1968.50 luckily the transaction was not made. I informed the manager at the front desk about this problem and of course he stated that he trusts his employees would never do such a thing. This has been the worst experience in the last 6 years that I have been traveling on business. Not to mention my other co-workers had to change rooms twice and one co-worker had roaches in her bathroom.

I loved the location of the room, which was exactly what I had requested. The decor was upscale in the "superior" room. The room was spotless. The beds were exceptional, equal to Hyatt and Marriott. Servers and staff were friendly and accommodating. We had a special need member of our party, and every effort was made to accommodate him. We were in San Diego to attend a function at the resort, and felt we had no choice but to stay at MVR. Now we are glad we made the reservation and disregarded some of the reviews we read. When we first saw the interior of our room we were expecting queen rather than double beds, but I'll trade the larger size for the greater comfort anytime. All 4 members of the family sharing the room agreed that we will be returning soon. Also, the attention paid to our reunion function was also superb, far better than we have experienced at other facilities in Mission Valley.

We chose this hotel as part of a package offer. The pictures looked nice. When we got to the room, none of the lights would come on. Finally, we discovered after jiggling the switches a bit, they would work. Then we could see the ant colony living in the bathroom. After having maintenance come and spray we settled to sleep. It seems that this is a favorite spot for the local part crowd. We could hear a patron trying to rouse his friend passed out in the bushes next to our room and quite a bit of carousing until about 1:00 am. This hotel was probably nice in the sixties, but is in need of renovation. I would not stay here again.

I am not likely to return to the Mission Valley Resort Hotel.
I would not recommend it to friends.

The only good thing about this hotel id the free wireless. I was stuck next to a room with a smoker, and the staff did not offer to move me or my neighbor. The walls are extremely thin, so I had to leave the fan on in order to muffle the television from next door.

I would definitely not go back. I stayed at Motel 8 down the road before, which was cheaper and had better situations.

I am not likely to return to the Mission Valley Resort Hotel.
I would not recommend it to friends.
