Our garden view room on the second floor was very nice and easy to get to from a side extrance. Found the hotel staff to be very polite, friendly and very helpful. One hostess at the restaraunt even gave my wife a hug. The taxi to and from the dock

Where to begin....Let's start with the terrible customer service at the front desk. I made my reservation through their website and confirmed it a week before. Imagine my surprise when my family of four arrived and they tried to put us in a room w

Well, there are not many choices on the island. If you are wealthy beyond means, you can stay at the Grand, but the choice of Mission Point was great on my parents' part.
The hotel had a bit of the old charm that one should enjoy when on the island. The restaurant was neat, the food was good. The rooms were really nice. There are lots of opportunities for families, like a pool and an arcade, (I played "Corvette" pinball there,) but it is also quiet enough for couples and those who just want to enjoy the beauty of Mackinac.
It is way down at one end of the island, which provides seclusion, near the state park, but it is also a ways on foot from the old town of Mackinac. Grab a bike, or it will be a little bit if a walk. However, we made it just fine without bikes. We're Minnesotans though- The Healthiest in the nation!
Stay here and get a great value and a nice combination of tranquility and fun!

Better than the Grand by Far!!. Not sure where the other loser stayed, but the staff and rooms at Mission Point Resort are exactly what WE expected. If you want five star and world renouned resorts, then stay at THEM!! Mackinac Island is a very family friendly place to relax and enjoy the island, fort, state park and yes, horses do have a nasty side to them, however street sweepers are everywhere to clean it all and there is no other place we know of that does not allow motorized vehicles...maybe in Hong Kong but we have never been there...and downtown is a great place to spend the evening. Mission point has very friendly staff from around the world who go out of their way to make your stay special. Epicurean Restuarant food and service is above most Ritz Carlton Hotels WE have stayed at! If you have read this far, you should give Mission Point Resort a try.
I am very likely
to return to the Mission Point Resort.
I would definitely recommend it to friends.

If youre looking for a romantic get-away on Mackinac Island, keep on looking. Maybe my wife and I have higher expectations for resort accommodations. We have both traveled the world and stayed in the most impressive resorts such as the Peninsula Hong Kong hotel, Laguna Niguel Ritz-Carlton in Southern California, as well as various five star rated Michelin properties. Mackinac hotels and ambiance are the equivalent of taking the family to Cedar Point Amusement Park, Dollywood, and glorious downtown Toledo, Ohio. Not to mention, the pure stench of horse manure is pervasive and adds to the over-priced epicurean delights of the island.
Our romantic get-away begins at the Mission Point Resort. The sales agent that booked our room was skillfully deceptive in describing room 1161 (the Mariners suite). We expected a private patio with a beautiful view of the Lake. The tab for one night, lodging only, came to $450 USD. Not too bad considering a room at the Ritz-Carlton runs $400 a night on up. My wife and I were so excited upon arrival. I guess we overlooked the long check-in process in anticipation of our weekend of romance. The first sign of trouble happened when I opened our French doors to what I thought was our own private patio. To our surprise, our patio was the main pedestrian expressway to the pool. What was especially delightful was another guest entered our room through the French doors mistaking our romantic nook for the hallway to his room. The view of Lake Huron was enhanced by our neighbor hanging his bathing suit and work-out clothes out his window not more than 2 feet from our room. I do commend the hotel manager for setting up a makeshift privacy chain around our patio to discourage other guests from entering our room. However, the damage had already been done. Staying in room 1161 was like being on display at the local zoo. Naturally, we ended our stay prematurely at Mission Point.
Our story doesnt end with the Mission Point Resort. I previously mentioned the over-priced epicurean delights of the island. The Grand Hotel gave us a grand bending over for a $40 USD continental breakfast. This included two eggs, coffee, ham, and hash-browns. Wow! I had some expensive breakfasts, however this takes the cake. I found it interesting that we didnt get a receipt from our waiter and paid cash.
My purpose in writing the letter is to save one couples hard earned money and vacation. Dont make the same mistake as we did.
