This was my first trip to NC, and I didn't want to spend a ton of money, so I chose to stay at the Microtel, which is actually very nice and clean at a location in Ohio.
Well, they said they had wireless internet in every room. Give me a break! The lady at the counter didn't even know what the internet was! As I'm in the lobby complaining about the internet because I was there on business, a rather large woman gets off the elevator in an oversized t-shirt, underwear and socks. A young girl came in obviously not even 18 and was given a room without question. The clientele was totally sketchy.
It took forever to get a refund, the lady was "new" and didn't know how to work the credit card machine so her manager had to do it when she came back the next day. As we were leaving, the desk worker made a comment about my leaving to another sketchy hotel guest. Well, if she knew how to work the internet and how to treat guests maybe I wouldn't have left.
The hotel reeked and the room was disgusting. The TV was wedged above the closet hanging at an angle, I seriously thought it was going to fall. I turned on the air conditioning and I think that there was something dead in there because it smelled even worse.
