We stayed in the Maui Kai, unit 806 in March of 2008 and the ocean view was unlike any we've ever had before. Maui Kai is one of the few condos on west Maui right on the beach as most of the other resorts we've stayed at are set quite a bit farther back. Being on the eigth floor we could see whales and the sunset right from our balcony. The room itself was a well laid out studio and the balcony was huge with a direct unobstructed ocean view. The unit was very clean and looks like it was completely renovated recently, it even had one of those large flat screen tvs. Daily maid service so it was like staying in a hotel. The rare thing is you just walk out from teh hotel and you are one Kaanapali beach and don't haveto walk for blocks like the other hotels. We found the resort through one of the owners web site www.mauikai.org and even ended up getting a 15% discount, so on top of being a great unit in an amazing resort we actually got a great deal. With any luck we'll be going back soon!
