I was visiting Charleston and always have stayed at Masters Inn and by surprise what a change in the place (upgrading)(new manager)(polite staff). A wonderful visit, the carpets could use some upgrading but was told by manager that is in the process. Parking lot needs to be fixed or re-done. They now have security everyday and security cameras, they even allow pets what a deal for the economy travelor.
This hotel is going through some changes and renovations. The General Manager and staff are very friendly and professional. From the last time I stayed here they have done a very good job of operating this hotel. Improved by a mile.

Horrible
After making reservations through the hotel website, I was quoted one price. Upon check-in, I was charged $20 more per room ( I had a total of 5 rooms). When we got into one of the rooms, we immediately saw roaches along with a horrible smell. There ...
35 year old female with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure
We decided to book a room at this catastrophy for one night so we could start our vacation early. The roaches apparently had been vacationing at the Master's Inn for years; along with the local crackheads who seemed to have established residency at this hotel. Not to mention the security guard who appeared to be a crack dealer in uniform supplying to the hotel veterans. There were "prostitutes" doing laps around the hotel going in and out of different rooms, while throwing a whislte to the so called officer every few minutes. Our total stay was 45min.....15 min to checkin, 15 min to the store, 3 min of finding roaches in the room, in the bed, in the phone, you name it....they were all over the room....the last 12mins...checking out. Finally, you wouldn't believe what the Front Desk lady says...."You guys better not have used anything or you will be charged"... Ha!! This hotel needs to start a roach farm and have the local security and crackheads operate it.
