Marriott San Mateo Hotel

I was at the hotel for a convention and the property layout was confusing. The hotel staff was great. The room upgrades that were promised at the time of reservation were not complete.

The room was wonderful and clean. The hotel was convenient to the airport. The transportation offered from the airport could have been more timely.

Let me start off by pointing out that the concierge lounge is suppose to be open on Sunday 5-10 pm and Monday 6 am - (I didn't bother looking). And it is not just because there is a convention going on. Ok, this is just irritating and not enough to give it such a horrible review. But, here is what really make me angry about this hotel.

On Friday, the maid gets to the room so we leave while she cleans. Later that night, we realize that a stuff toy of high sentimental value is missing. We report this to the front desk and they pretty much do nothing about it. It took us demanding to talk to the manager on Sunday for them to even check the laundry room. Of course they have said, "Nope, we don't have it". Great, so their maid comes in a steals something of ours, whether it was accidental or on purpose (which I doubt) they should still be held accountable. Yet, they haven't done much in the way of looking for it, and they haven't offered any sort of compensation

Stay away from this hotel at all coast. You'll be better off.

This is a great hotel! They have done a terrific job of updating the old hotel. My only complaint is they charge too much for parking considering they have a huge parking lot and they are not in San Francisco!

The hotel had a very friendly staff, easy and free parking, inexpensive items on the restaurant menu and a good price. It was nice!

This hotel made me feel welcome: Everyone I spoke to at the Marriott San Mateo hotel was friendly and seemed genuinely interested in making sure that my stay was a pleasant one. I feel like they spend time teaching their staff to be good to people, which is all too rare these days, even in service oriented businesses like hotels. In addition, the restaurant staff made sure I knew about what options were available, including lower cost items.
