Pono Kai in Kapaa looks out at the famous Sleeping Giant, a mountain range that resembles its namesake. The hotel has a great family atmosphere with many daily activities and complimentary equipment for everyone including ping pong, shuffleboard, bocce ball, and a croquet court! There are bicycles to rent and a 2-mile bike path as well as putt-putt golf. The grounds are lovely with little garden paths, an herb garden, a trickling waterfall and a pond. The one and two bedroom suites have fully equipped kitchens, ceiling fans, color cable television and much more. The hotel also has a swimming pool, jet spa, sauna, tennis courts, barbecue stations, and laundry facilities. Comfortable hotel in amazing surroundings.

There are two different companies that manage this resort. A great company manages the timeshare section of this resort and I have nothing bad to say about them. The other group is Marc Resorts. I would not recommend booking with Marc Resorts. I...

I did not see this site. Looked at reviews (mixed) on Expedia.
I would never book with this or any Marc Resorts unit again. I stayed in a privately owned condo managed by them at Pono Kai. Only one manager who works 8am-5pm. We arrived during her lunch and had to wait for her to come back to check in (1 1/2 hours!).
Dishwasher didn't work; stove only one working burner.
Ceiling fans not working correctly. One only had super slow speed, and other had to be plugged and unplugged from outlet (wall switch connected to it did not work; this is an electrical hazard).
The manager had 2 floor fans, one which was dirty and full of grime. Security for the sliding lanai door was a PVC pipe!
It is obvious that no regular maintenance is performed on this condo. Too many problems with it to be "normal" wear and tear.
I contacted the Marc Resorts Honolulu office and left a message. They never returned my call. I left 3 days early on a prepaid package and stayed at another resort (extra cost to me, but conditions were intolerable with a child).
I have stayed at other islands in hotels and condos. This place was the worst.
If you plan to visit Kauai, stay someplace else. The island and the people are great!

There are two different companies that manage this resort. The timeshare section of this resort is managed by a great company and I have nothing bad to say about them. The "hotel" part of this resort (you would book through hotels.com) is Marc Resorts and here is my review of their side of the resort.
What was good:
-Location
-The timeshare management company was very helpful (not Marc Resorts)
What was bad:
-No one was there from Marc Resorts to check us in.
-The room was advertised with AC, but the unit had no AC. I was also told NONE of the units managed by Marc Resorts have AC, so they couldn't swap us into another room. (My wife was 6 1/2 months pregnant, so AC is a must)
-The front door paint was almost all chipped off and filthy
-The closet door had major water damage and was flaking apart
-The ceiling fans in this unit had their power cables tacked to the ceiling with thumb tacks
-All of the dishes, glasses, etc... were older than I am
-The furniture was in horrible shape and was falling apart. (I thought I was going to break the chair when I sat down)
-All of the carpet was stained with food and mud
-Everything was very outdated / dirty / retro
-The sliding glass door lock was very flimsy and didn't appear safe at all
We could not stay in this hotel for all of these reasons, but MARC RESORT and HOTELS.COM would not give us a refund!
Pono Kai was a great place to stay in Kauai. They had great service from their Guest Service Agents and Activities staff. Housekeeping also did a great job. I will definately return to Pono Kai when I come back to Kauai.

Good
We stayed here with family this year. This resort is a wel-maintained 219-room condominium at the south side of Kapaa. Our unit was roomy and well equipped, with a full kitchen including a dishwasher and microwave oven, queen sofa beds,...
