This is an 80 year old historic hotel 6 miles inside the north entrance to YNP on an all season plowed road. Rooms are various types - some with shower stall, some with tub, some with both, some with none (use corridor washrooms). The plumbing is old and variable. Steam heat can be a concern. Portable fans and muted lighting in-room . Drinkable tap water. Coffee maker in room. Comfy lobby with morning regional newspaper and a front porch useful for people and wildlife viewing. Walk to area trailheads (or Gardiner) including the hot springs terraces. TV in restaurant bar across the road. Activities sign-up at front desk. Gift shop on site. Piano music and slide shows at night. Sign up for early morning wildlife tour.

We had a tiny cabin cottage, and it was as sparse and antiquated as a 1920's Motel 6 - but who cares? Our cabin also came with a front porch and hot tub, all enclosed by a really high, private fence that had a locking gate. It was heaven soaking the sore muscles at night after all the hiking, and was also very romantic.

When I walked into my room, my first thought was...1960's family summer vacation. The room was sparse with a plaid bedspread, small bathroom, and no complimentary TV or alarm clock. I did take into consideration, that when this hotel was built, private bathrooms were not in the plans. My room was clean and I slept with my window open, listening to the sounds of nature. The restaurant on the property was very nice and I treated myself to a Yellowstone Sunset in the hotel bar before retiring for another day of adventure in the park.
