I was able to stay at this hotel during the off season through a special on a website. It was very worth it!
It is so nice to have a hotel for 6 nights with fresh linens and towels, a large bathroom with a great tub and shower (adjustable shower head...will work for any height), remote control for the lights beside the bed. It has the most comfortable beds I have ever had in a hotel. If you have jet lag, you will need a bed like this! The hair dryer might be different than a US hairdryer...but it does the trick. The windows are very quiet and cut out very much of the street noise. (Saturday night seems to be party night in Turin...so you might hear a bit more street noise on that night)
The Majestic is a terrific bargain as it includes breakfast...wonderful danishes, eggs, ham cheese, rolls, toast, cereals, yogurt, granola, furit, juices, coffee, tea. This meal will save a good portion of your budget right here. It was delicious.
Right across the street from the hotel is the Train Station (Torino Porta Nuova). The Museo Egizio is just a short 5 block walk from the hotel and the Shroud of Turin is just about 8 blocks away (I suggest you walk throught the piazzas and walk by the castles for this). There is a great information booth by the Museo Egizio and the front dest of the hotel can provide maps as well. Across the street from teh hotel are affordable restaurants and toward the Museo Egizio are more trendy places to eat. There is also a Farmacia across the street from the hotel.
The Front Desk is extremely helpful. There was a young lady who printed out at train schdule for us and told us which train on our schedule would take us straight through. She was an immense help. There is always someone on the front desk that speaks English...so translation is no problem. Upon leaving, the front desk called for a taxi and it arrived within 2 minutes.
Check-in was a breeze. We showed our passports and they kept them for about 5 minutes so they could do a standard check. By the time we got unloaded in our room, they were completed with our passports.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Starhotels Majestic. We would certainly recommend it to anyone who will listen. For my first stay in Turin, Italy, it certainly made a wonderful impression.
