Nice neighborhood hotel (free parking!) in the Presidio Heights/Pacific Heights area, this place is great for relatives that don't need to be downtown or deal with Fisherman's Wharf.
Across the street is the local JCC with (currently) and Asian Fusion restaurant & bar. Also there's Ella's, a must-attend place for Sunday brunch. Watch out for long lines though.
One block away is toney Sacramento Street, with it's restaurants, antique shops, and other various boutiques.
The hotel is also home to a hip lounge-like bar, known as the "G". House music plays in the background and visitors can get a variety of mixed drinks while reclining on their velvet couches. There's also a fireplace for those cold nites. (I haven't been there on a weekend evening - it may get a bit crowded.)
The hotel service is adequate but not warm. Rooms are very large and decorated in neo-hip styles -- think Design Within Reach clearance sale.
Some rooms are noisy if they directly face California St.
Also, they do allow dogs with guests.
