Lake Lure Inn Inn - Page 1

This was our first visit to the Lake Lure Inn and, considering some of the reviews posted here, we were very pleasantly surprised. We had a suite on the third floor and, yes, the rooms are a little on the small side. Cleanliness was not an issue. Plenty of storage space for our things and a nice little kitchenette with sink, microwave, fridge etc.

Our only complaint was with the tub/jacuzzi arrangement in the quite small bathroom. It could be a challenge for older guests and one has to be very careful not to fall getting in and out of the elevated tub.

The atmosphere of the Inn is very charming with lots of beautiful things to look at and admire. Location right on the lake front is ideal with plenty of nearby boardwalk for evening strolling. Plenty of nice restaurants within walking or short driving distance.

Is the Lake Lure Inn a 5-star hotel? No. Is it a charming old place for those looking for something unusual? Yes it is and we look forward to returning.

I had stayed at hotel before, and it was wonderful in the past. Made reservation for a room with closet, as some rooms do not have. When I arrived, couldn't enter thru front door, sent to back door. I got key, found room had no closet, was told that room given "to wedding party". Further, found that dining room was closed that evening, and that breakfast was no longer served at the hotel. One can go 100 yards from the hotel in the rain and get 10% off breakfast. I asked to check out immediately. The hotel used to be very good, but something has happened. I will never return.

A few months ago, my husband and I made a confirmed, guaranteed reservation, well in advance. When we arrived, (30 minutes before check-in), we were told that our room had been given away.

We were stunned and drove the hundred miles back home.

We emailed the general manager, Anthoney Simmons, asking for an explanation and received this reply two days later:

"Standard response. No comp room. Blah blah blah."

I contacted the corporate office in Florida - twice -and spoke to a very nice woman. But, I was never called back - did not even get an apology.

It was wonderful. There were lots of things to do, it was renovated and the art deco inn did a great job. The chef is fantastic. I would highly recommend it.

This hotel made me feel comfortable: The atmosphere and the staff made me feel comfortable.
