Mediocre
I checked into the Lafayette in a rather "seedy" side of town. Everything was fine until I got to the room. Bathrooms were clean, but old and well worn. The bed may as well have been a cement block. After several hours of trying to sleep on the...

Horrible
I recieved a "free" upgrade to a suite which was disgustingly dirty and in poor repair. If this was an upgrade I'd hate to see the orignal room. Please stay elsewhere.

Horrible
This hotel is old and rundown. I stayed there on a Sunday and they rented out the pool for a party that had a very loud band playing from 11am until 10pm.The hotel is also being converted to condos.

Some of the staff did an outstanding job of making sure that our requests were met. I spent time to fill out the comment card to acknowledge their outstanding performance.

We stayed in one of the 3 bedroom townhouses. while it wasn't as clean or as "new" as I would have liked, it had great character, so it was easy to overlook these little things. This was also a great affordable option, as our son and daughter each had their own room. We loved the history of the place, which was full of pictures of movie stars (from many years ago) staying at the hotel. The complimentary breakfast was excellant and the pool, hot tub and surrounding area lovely. The location was great- very central and easy to get anywhere in San Diego. We were close enough to Balboa Park to take walks over there daily, and the neighborhood was charming!
