Its in a beautiful location, but lacking cleanliness and care. Including hallways that were missing pictures, room service trays left overnight, and a worn and somewhat unkempt room appearance. Top notch hotel? Definitely not.

The La Valencia Hotel underwent a complete refurbishing in 2001, which turned this 1926 hotel into a viable competition for any modern day rivalry. Her trademark pink facade endears guests to this Grand Dame.
Keeping with the traditional feel, a few of the rooms are decorated in flowered tapestries and mahogany wood. The newer villas host Mediterranean-style decor with bougainvillea drenched patios. The bathrooms have dual rain-heads in the shower and whirlpool tubs. The rooms have views of either the Pacific Ocean or La Jolla Village, both are wonderful. Experience a bit of Southern California's history with a stay at the pink lady.
The public areas are quite nice but the rooms are very, very small - we had to turn sideways to walk around the wed - and the decor was terrible. It was like Edith Prickley from SCTV designed them - awful leopard-skin with hideous chandelier and...

All Review Photos As I’d been to San Diego many times in the past, I wanted to try something new and stay in downtown La Jolla. After consulting the IGOUGO San Diego journals, I was convinced La Valencia might be worth its rather steep tariff....
