You're paying for the location, not the room

The Valencia is in one of the best spots in downtown La Jolla Shores right off of Prospect St with beautiful ocean views.
These were too pricey for us, we had partial, but at least we could easily walk down to the beach (a small, small beach), the restaurants, and shopping. The rooms are pretty standard, and old too, you may feel you are in a European hotel room even (a bit small). I will try another hotel next time.

They have a lovely Sunday brunch with fresh crab legs, sushi, a chocolate fountain, and more yummy food.

It's in a beautiful location, but lacking cleanliness and care. Including hallways that were missing pictures, room service trays left overnight, and a worn and somewhat unkempt room appearance. Top notch hotel? Definitely not.
I am
not likely
to return to the La Valencia Hotel.
I
would not recommend it to
friends.

La Valencia still the Grand Dame

The La Valencia Hotel underwent a complete refurbishing in 2001, which turned this 1926 hotel into a viable competition for any modern day rivalry. Her trademark pink facade endears guests to this Grand Dame.
Keeping with the traditional feel, a few of the rooms are decorated in flowered tapestries and mahogany wood. The newer villas host Mediterranean-style decor with bougainvillea drenched patios. The bathrooms have dual rain-heads in the shower and whirlpool tubs. The rooms have views of either the Pacific Ocean or La Jolla Village, both are wonderful. Experience a bit of Southern California's history with a stay at the pink lady.
I am
very likely
to return to the La Valencia Hotel.
I
would definitely recommend it to
friends.

I appreciated the hotel's lovely location , historic lobby and helpful staff. But the room price was high for its location in the hotel.
I am
not likely
