Excellent
Access heading east is excellent. Trains can be heard at night--not for the light sleeper. Breakfast was not just donuts and coffee, but included waffles, bagels, fruit and more. Complimentary newspaper. Suites have ample room and nice set-up...

I won't stay in downtown Gallup. The location of the LQ was perfect for wife & me -- the east edge of town/I-40/Ex26. The room, plus other parts of the motel, were clean & neat. The exterior doors at both ends of the interior corridor locked automatically. Our King-bed room was pricey ($85.50 + $13.5% tax = $90.80) but, based on reviews I've read of other Gallup motels, there are only two I would book --- the LQ & Hampton Inn West (We stayed there in 2006 & it's excellent. But a room+tax now totals $115-$140). The LQ breakfast includes waffles, plus the standard items (bagels, pastries, cereal, juice etc.). The motel opened in 2003 or '04. We stayed there 10-12-07 & we'll stay there in 2008.
I had one of the worst experiences in getting credit for a cancelled reservation, I finally got it after 5 months.
Advice: if you do any transaction with this hotel keep very good records for proof.
On July 29, 2006 I was driving from Lubbock Texas to Las Vegas, NV. I had reserved a room here for a one night stay on July 29, 2006 through AAA a week before. According to the reservation policy, I had to cancel the room before 6:00 pm on July 29 2006 to avoid any charges.
On July 29, 2006, due to unavoidable circumstances on the road, I had to stay at Sheraton at Albuquerque. Therefore, around 5:30 pm I called the La Quinta Inn at Gallup and tried to cancel the reservation. The person on attended my call was unable to find my reservation detail and after 5 minutes on the phone he said my reservation is cancelled. He never gave any cancellation number.
After promptly, cancelling my reservation, I was charged in my credit card. On calling the manager, he said he cannot do anything and I had to dispute it as I did not have any cancellation number.
Please note: The person who cancelled my reservation never told cancellation number even though he said my reservation was cancelled.
It took me 5 months, writing letters to my credit card company sending my phone bills indicating the time the call was made to cancel etc., to get my credit back.
I also wrote a complaint letter to La Quinta Inn management in Texas. Not surprisingly, I never received any reply.
I liked this place because it was a nice and clean hotel. nice service. It was a little far from any places to eat but beside it was Dennys son I didn't mind.
