La Quinta Inn Marshall Motel - Page 1

We arrived at our room, the evening of December 22, 2007. Upon entering the room, I made an immediate left, into the bathroom, to "check it out", and I nearly slipped on the tile floor. It was very slick, and the room reeked of Windex (or some such cleaning solution). I'm wondering if the floor was sprayed with something and wiped up with a paper towel, to give the illusion of cleanliness. The next thing was the wall heater -- that also emitted a strong, foul odor. We got past that; whether it dissipated or we got used to it, I don't remember. Onto the ice machine.... our bucket of ice came complete, with a cockroach. I can't complain about the bed. It appeared clean, and it was comfortable. Either they really changed the sheets, or the people before us were clean. At this point, who knows. I called the front desk and requested a 6:00 a.m. wake-up call. We were meeting family at the IHOP, at 7:30 a.m. The wake-up call never came; I was just lucky I awoke early. On the way out, we decided to get something to drink, so we stopped by the breakfast bar. I don't drink coffee, but I was looking forward to a glass of orange juice. There was none. I'm sure LaQuinta will still survive -- but they'll do it without any additional business from us.

I loved the price and the breakfast was ok. The hotel was run down and it needed refurbishing. The staff was ok. Mostly, the hotel was just threadbare and worn, a bit musty smelling.

This La Quinta should be the example for others. The staff jumped through hoops for us. We were there for a funeral and they were more than just employees, they were like family.
