The La Playa is beautiful but the service and food offered in the restaurant is appealing. I have never in years of traveling the world been treated in such an indifferent manner. Requests were not filled, billing was botched. The hotel simply has no customer service ethic. The Thanksgiving buffet was absolutely overpriced, service once again TERRIBLE and the food a c-. Never again!! With the many places to stay in the area avoid this one!

We stayed her by chance as a room we booked at another establishment didn't work out. They had one room left and we happily took it.
We were pleasantly surprised. The room was tastefully appointed and the amenities at the hotel were top notch. Most places in Carmel Valley don't have the space the La Playa is sitting on. They have a huge pool, restaurant, deck, etc.
As far as locale, youre one block long block from Ocean Avenue and all the great shopping and restaurants. Look the other way and you are a few minute walk from Carmel beach (one of my favorites).

There is something magical about La Playa in Carmel. I look forward more to vacations at La Playa than at just about in hotel in California.
The rooms and the setting are not as spectacular as Ventana or Post Ranch, but there is something about the old Spanish style architecture and the beautiful gardens that make La Playa a very special place to escape from it all.
The beach and all of the fun shops and restaurants are a short stroll away.

All Review Photos The La Playa hotel in Carmel is absolutely beautiful. It was built in the style of a Mediterranean villa back in 1904 as a wedding gift for a member of the Ghiradelli chocolate family.
pros: Friendly, Cozy, BeautifulI loved staying at La Playa because of it's location, the decor and the friendliness of the staff. We decided to change rooms because we wanted a different view, and the staff came up right away and moved our luggage...

This cozy hotel was originally a private residence build for a member of San Francisco's famous Ghirardelli Chocolate family. It was lovingly refurbished in 1983. The wrought iron gazebo in the garden is the picture of romance. Some of the rooms...
