26 year old with a moderate budget, traveling for business
Recently stayed at La Jolla Inn. The location of the hotel is prime and within very close distance to shops and cafes. However, the hotel was poorly maintained. First, to open the room to get inside was half the battle. The key they had given me was not a very good match for the lock or the lock was too old. I asked for another room and they said that all locks would have the same problem. Second, the remote control for the TV was non-functional. Third, the shower/bathtub combo was very old and needed repair. In addition, the toilet would not flush properly unless you held down the handle for a long time. Finally, the staff was unfriendly and rude!
Bottom line, don't stay there. Although location is excellent, it is not really worth the price and discomfort. Even Motel 6 has better accomadations.
42 year old with a economy budget, traveling for business
I wanted to give this hotel a try since I regularly come to San Diego on business and I was pleasantly surprised. The La Jollla Inn has the best location in La Jolla. I paid only $139 a night and found other hotels in the area charging way more. Some of the other hotels I found also charge for parking where as this hotel does not. The parking was a couple of blocks away but I didn't mind because it was free. The service was very good. I ordered my complimentary breakfast and it came to me in about 15 minutes. Checking in and out of this hotel was a breeze. The hotel recommended a great French restaurant called Forever Fondue at the same location to where the hotel parking is located. The restaurant wasn't open for lunch but I went there for dinner with a collogue of mine and we both enjoyed it. I recommend this hotel for the location, price and service. You won't be disappointed!

The rooms are extremely small and cramped with barely enough room for two people to move about comfortably. The AC was nonfunctional and provided no relief from the hot weather. The ocean can only be seen if you're standing out on the small balcony, and not all from the 'comfort' of your room. For $350+/night I expected the full ocean view they advertise! The "King bed" was actually two twin size mattresses pushed together! That does not make a King size bed! And the headboard was not attached and banged against the wall every time I moved! We were awakened at 1 AM by the loud music coming from the bar across the street! If I could have shut the patio slider this may not have been a problem, but due to the inefficiency of the AC unit, we needed to keep the door open for some source of air! The beach is not "just steps" from the hotel. It's 2 blocks away down a very steep grade. Definitely hard to navigate if you have any sort of physical limitations.
And the owner/manager is never onsite to discuss customers' concerns. He has totally ignored numerous attempts to contact him. Customer service is nonexistant at this hotel.
I don't know where the people who wrote all these glowing reviews stayed, or if they're employees even, but these comments describe my experience at the La Jolla Inn. Beware!
