The strong noise from the bar until 2 am came through their paper thin walls, I could hear every single noise in the building. And no, they haven't improved the building enough, no matter what the manager says.
You can indeed ask for a quiet room. A quiet room means a room about 50 meters away from the bar. That’s not good enough with a low quality building!
I did ask for a quiet room. It was supposed to be quiet, and away from the bar. But the noise and music coming from the bar was unbearable. The hotel might say that they have refurbished the hotel, blah, and blah. All false.
I have to go to Galway quite frequently, and I've been to this hotel three times simply because the staff is nice, the food is good, and it's good overall.
But there's simply no way to sleep in this hotel before 2 am. Their paper thin walls, poor quality double glazed windows, and the noisy bar just meters away make this an awful place to stay. You just cannot rest.
To make things worse, I spoke to the manager to complain. Obviously, I requested a refund, as I could only sleep for three hours and paid close to 100 euros + 50 euros in meals. He refused to do so (he just gave me a discount 15-20 euros). He did not believe me.
I’ll never stay here again.
