When this place first opened, we thought we had found the perfect local getaway, which is what it advertises. Becoming what we would consider "regulars" at this establishment, the last stay we experienced was anything BUT the "Escape". We received a call prior to check in advising us that the rate had changed from the $150.00, to $190.00, supposedly for a "better upstairs room". We didn't argue. Not wanting to cause hard feelings, and after all, it was all in the name of a better room. Being known at a place, means that when you spend $200.00+ per night on any given weekend, it's to have some alone time together. We were placed side by with an EXTREMELY noisy group. We made a quiet dinner, and went out to the hot tub, which was cool. We turned the heat on, tried to relax, only to the sound of loud screams. It was so ridiculous we recorded them with hopes maybe they would make arrangements for us to return at a later date, our evening ruined. We could not escape the sounds in the room either. While walking through to the kitchen, there was a large pipe protruding from a table made from an old artifact. It was an old fire blower. I more than cleared the table top, but the poker end, which came at least two inches from the center of the table past the table top, jabbed into my leg. It swelled my entire thigh and turned it purple. It was the evening from HELL! The next day, we were checking out, and were trying to explain to the front desk help what had happened with our stay. Her reply was simply, "well, you can bump into anything". I was stunned, my husband irritated, replied that he would like to see the owner. She got on a walkie talkie and bellowed, "could someone send ... to the office, we have customers that don't want to pay the full price for their room". I was appauled. Horrified, I pleaded with my husband to come on and leave. That was not our intention! However, at the very least, an injury like that should have been recognized by the owner, and when I told her about it, she said she too had hit the table in the same place. Needless to say, embarassed, we didn't wait around, and were never contacted by an owner or manager either. Completely not what I had expected from this place at all. Guests should be treated with respect, not belittled for a valid reason. Spoken from someone that knows, the Kemah Escape opened with flying colors, but each time we have gone there, it has been less and less impressive. Save yourself the embarassment and the frusteration, stay at the Boardwalk Inn or at one of the other more established local places like Clipper House Inn. You'll get much more class. After all, anyone can decorate a unique room, but class is something you either have or you don't. If you are concerned about being treated with respect, the Escape isn't the place for you, which is evident when you walk into the office. I think the staff would be better off tending bar than tending a hotel, after 10 minutes with the management, I'm sure you to will agree.
