We were excited to find Jordan Hollow online and to book a two night stay for our first anniversary. The website looked so good, we didn’t even do any homework on the place. What a disappointment when we arrived!
We were seeking a beautiful remote place to get away. Jordan Hollow is just on the outskirts of Stanley Virginia a nondescript, small, somewhat depressing, town. We meandered through Stanley until we made the turn into the Jordan Hollow drive. The drive to the inn dissected the horse farm pasture which was overgrown and littered with blue plastic drums.
As we approached the inn itself, our disappointment swelled. The old farmhouse, which looked so beautiful on-line, was obviously in sad repair. We walked the grounds and found the whole place to be overgrown and unkept. A review of our room revealed a fairly newly renovated space of new country decor. The large ‘soaking tub’ was the central focus of the room and was front and center as we entered. Shoddy construction was evident everywhere. Quickly, we agreed that this was absolutely not a $250 per night room or place and we decided not to stay!
Upon voicing our displeasure and decision to leave, we were advised that we would be charged a $100 cancellation fee. The clerk advised that such a charge was company policy and she was forced to charge it.
We reluctantly agreed to pay the fee and take the matter up later with the absent owner/innkeeper. In the week following, two calls were made to her to discuss our dissatisfaction and to request a refund. We left messages each time and neither call was returned.
It should also be noted that we have since learned that many of the local attractions shown on the website are 50 miles away!
If you are looking for a special Shenandoah Valley get-away, skip the Jordan Hollow Inn.
