Good
This place has an amazing view, it's right on the edge of Seaward, steps from the water. The owner is very nice and helpful. It's not the most flashy hotel, and doesn't have a ton of extra amenities, but the view is the most important thing! Plus,...

My fiance and I frequent the Ventura marina on a regular basis to soak up the ions and the cooler air, as we are from the High Desert and both of us hail from Pacific Grove and miss the sea. The beaches of Ventura are "our spot". We have stayed at several different hotels on our excursions. And then we spotted the Inn, and fell in love with its charm and the yesterday-beach-town feel of the streets of Seaward. We vowed we would one day stay at the Inn on one of our trips...and we did! This hotel is everything and more that we had hoped and anticipated it would be! The room was absolutely charming, the hotel was cozy, quiet and clean, and the continental breakfast was yummy. Great coffee! We enjoyed our second-floor balcony for hours as we watched the beach-goers and the beautiful ocean, we slept like babes in the incredible bed, and gazed into the fire flickering in our fireplace all night. We didn't even think to turn on the television! I wish we never had to leave, and cannot wait to return again. We cannot think of anywhere else we would rather spend our precious time when we go down to the sea but at the Inn on the Beach! Thank you, Steve, for your kindness and care, and we so look forward to visiting again, soon. We have come home.

This place was so cute and just what you need for a weekend get away at the beach! The views from the 2nd floor room were spectacular (3rd floor would be even better) you could not be any closer to the ocean! The room has everything you need for a romantic weekend or a trip with the kids!
If the sound of the ocean and the view of the surf from your balcony were not romantic enough, the fireplace, incredibly comfortable bed and Jacuzzi tub took it over the edge. You are so close to the ocean that you could lie in the bed and watch the waves crash over the sand! Also the staff were pleasant and a delight to deal with!
It is not the Ritz but the price is not the Ritz either and it has everything a beach front hotel needs. We almost cancelled our stay do to reviews on the web but I am sure glad we did not because we found a terrific little place at an affordable price. If you want perfection like you would get from a 5 star hotel, stay in a 5 star hotel. But if you want a relaxing, quaint, romantic, comfortable, and affordable beach front hotel that is within walking distance of everything you need, this is the place for you!
Just steps away there are terrific little restaurants (great Italian, awesome burgers, fresh fish fry, authentic Mexican), a darling produce stand and a small liquor store were you can get some local strawberries and a bottle of champagne to enjoy on your balcony while you watch the beautiful sunset over the ocean.
This place is a find but again if you are looking for luxury and everything to be perfect then stay at the Embassy Suites Mandalay Bay for almost twice the price and half the view or if you want a beach getaway that makes you feel like you are on the north shore of Hawaii stay here!
Once you arrive you won't need to get into your car again until you are ready to leave! We are planning our next stay already.

Reserved by phone after seeing thier site on the net. After checking in we found no heater, bad beds, worn out furnishings, broken light fixtures, few amenitys, ect, ect. The last straw was trying to use tub and finding the jets did not work only to be told that they had been that way for sometime. We checked out after being assured my card woul not be charged, IT WAS! Now the owner will not return calls and the staff refuses to give me his number.

My husband had dreamed of staying in this inn since he was a high school kid ditching school, hitchhiking to Ventura to hang out on the beach! Oh, to stay right on the beach! Just walk out the door and there you are! So we made reservations (easy and pleasant), gathered up both sets of in-laws, various children and grandchildren, and met in Ventura for the long awaited beach trip.
Positives: The beach is wonderful! The Inn staff was pleasant, the free breakfast offerings were adequate (Great Grandpa and the kids loved all the CostCo style pastries!). And the location was great! The kids lived in the ocean the whole time we were there. The view from the top floor was fabulous.
Negatives: The Inn is much too expensive for the shabby state it is presently in. From peeling wall paper, worn, soiled carpets, moldy shower tile and shower curtains, tubs I wouldn't let the children take tub baths in (showers only because of the mold), to bath fixtures in disrepair... We were very disappointed, and somewhat taken aback, at the poor condition of the rooms we were given. They were not at all like the rooms the public is invited to peek into.
So, while we enjoyed our family and the beach, the rooms were a disappointment and overpriced for the condition of this little place. With some basic repairs and TLC, The Inn on The Beach could be the sort of place we would love to return to. But next trip to Ventura, we'll look for other accommodations.

We love this hotel! Its a small, three-story hotel (with an elevator) which sits on the beach in beautiful Ventura. All of the rooms have decks overlooking the beach with breathtaking ocean views, including views of the Channel Islands. The romantic antique-style decor, comfy beds, flickering firelight from the gas fireplace, and soothing sites and sounds of the sea invoke the peaceful sleep of a free spirit.
Within immediate walking distance are quaint restaurants, a surf shop, a coffee house, and a miscellany of small businesses serving locals and visitors. A couple of blocks up there is a shopping center housing more businesses, including a Vons Grocery, a laundromat, and a bakery (try the cream-stuffed donut holes).
The Inn at the Beach is probably our favorite hotel of its kind. The hotel is run as if it's a family-owned (it may be) bed and breakfast (the continental breakfast is served in a sparse kitchenette area of the hotel - nothing to speak of, but nothing to complain about either). The staff is friendly, yet respectful of ones privacy. Our first stay here (an unexpected over-nighter on a business trip) was so delightful that we spent an additional night and explored some of the wonders of Ventura. We would, and do, recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Ventura. It would be an excellent honeymoon getaway, as well.
