39 year old woman with a moderate budget, traveling for leisure

We stayed here a year ago and had a bad experience, the rooms were old, dingy, and we woke up covered in termite excrement. It was everywhere. I complained, and was told the rooms were infested and soon to be gutted. I complained to Hyatt and they sent me a free night's stay. I just used the free night, along with a paid room ($200) and was told when I made the reservation that we'd get a renovated room, and that it would be great, and that they would go overboard to serve us. I got there, checked in, and the rooms were back in the "soon to be gutted" area, old, dirty, and surrounded by construction equipment. I went to the front desk and complained, and they moved us to the new rooms, which were very nice. The old rooms are so horrible, it shocks me that they put paying customers in them. Hyatt is hurting their reputation by doing so, I will never trust this chain again.

37 year old woman with a moderate budget

My friends and my family stayed here for my monterey wedding and the hotel staff (especially the concierge) were not accommodating. The concierge had an attitude and failed to deliver a package/document for me. The room was ugly and dirty. The tub was clogged and the hotel staff didn't do anything about it. I will never EVER stay in this hotel again.

This place is a glorified motel so be prepared. We paid $309/night for a standard motel looking room with no balcony and no view. The most disappointing thing is the way to place looks for the money, then the horrible service followed. They do not have air conditioning, and they offered to bring us a fan for our room but never did. It was our anniversary and they never delivered our bottle of champagne that we ordered, so when I called to remind them 2 hours later, we waited another hour and then left for dinner. When we came back, the bottle was in our room, but it was too late. When we drove up to the lobby on arrival, there was no valet to meet us, we parked our own car, which took 15 mintues of driving around waiting for someone else to leave for a spot to open up, and then we brought in our own luggage to our room. The location is NOT walking distance to anything, so you have to drive or cab it everywhere. What a disappointment the entire weekend.

Stay Away
member icon Horrible hotel and far from downtown

I have no idea why anyone stays here. It is FAR from downtown Monterey. My advice is to stay at the Marriott downtown, which is walking distance from dozens of shops and restaurants and even 2 British pubs! The Hayatt is miles from downtown, on the other side of the freeway. They only thing going for them is a second-rate golf course. This Hyatt does not deserve the Hyatt name. The staff is rude, ineffective and communicates poorly. I have never received such poor service as I did from the registration desk staff.

Overall, I liked the hotel.

I am somewhat likely to return to the Hyatt Regency Monterey.
I might recommend it to friends.
